Hi http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141696323001?euid=b66f10fc40b8459590e0adc5dbc2da05&cp=1Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Is it possible to form any opinion on this, based on these very poor pictures? Clearly missing the bezel. No movement shots. Extra-ordinary bracelet. I may be able to physically inspect it. Thoughts from clever people are always better than mine.
Looks like the bezel is there but the insert is missing, apparently there is a guy called Aldo in Italy who handmakes new ones. Maybe more photo's have been added since your post but there is now a movement shot and it looks OK to my untrained eye. I also like the look of the dial and hands. Though the case looks heavily polished.
Hmmm thought 165.014's should have an other dial.. This looks like an earlier dial. But I will sent cristos a pm for you
Ok so I bought this for what seemed like a good price. In the flesh it is much, much better than those photos. Nicely patinated and the face is very faintly brown. Genuine story and it seems to be the full monty. It is slightly polished, but I think was shot under some very strong glary lights. Nothing like the photos look. I will take it to my watchmaker this week as I am certain it has not been serviced for years. I have a few questions, which I hope some wise heads can help me with. 1. Bezel insert. I have emailed Aldo in Italy who offers to make them. Is this a good idea? Are there any other options? 2. What gives with the bracelet. It has an Omega symbol on the clasp, but no numbers or anything else. Is this something or is it just a made up thing? 3. What bracelet would be appropriate? Although I am thinking of a leather strap, it would be good to know what sort of SS would be of the correct era.
Oh, that bracelet has gotta go! Looks like the watch count clean up nice. For bracelet reference, see http://issuu.com/mstanga/docs/tab_bracciali_omega_ultima.xls
Aldo does amazing work but you will wait months, and I don't mean one or two. There are others who can do them but I've not seen their work, Tom Dick on here knows someone I believe. Bracelet is not of Omega manufacture and suitable alternatives are shown in the link above. I'd put it on a vintage rubber Tropic with Omega buckle. Nice piece. Some early 165.014-63's did have the dial from the 14755 and this is ok...serial is within the -63 range. Enjoy...
Check out this masterclass from Jack Norman, it shows vintage adverts with SM300's on Tropics. http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...mega-Seamaster-300-including-Military-watches I don't see why Omega would not fit an Omega buckle, after all they were 16mm, same as the strap.
... and vintage tropic (either swiss made one) looks great on the straight lug SM300's. Vintage shark is of course also nice on a diver. Below an old original Omega one. Whether the tropic straps were an officiel option is more hard to tell. Yes on the 165.024 as in the add perhaps but on the straight lugs, I think the tropic was not in vouge yet. The 7912 bracelet is all that, but if not for collection purpose, save your money.
I do have what has been identified as a reproduction buckle as pictued in that link... and I bought a nice flat leather 20/16 Omega strap from Otto Frei... so lots of possibilities. I put back on my 1610/840 bracelet for today. Tom
Yes, really. Pretty normal on all the SM300 references that parts were "carried over" in the transition periods of sub references. Hands, dials, bezels etc. - just like on the speedies. ...
