I have been looking around for a vintage dive strap I need. Great prices on 18mm width but when you get into 19mm or 20mm widths the prices are insane. I really need a 19mm or a 20mm will work. However I may just go with a 18mm and live with the narrow width 1mm is not much but a narrow strap has always bugged me. For the cost I just may make an exception in the width. I may have to use my imagination to figure out a way to shim the 1mm width so the spring bar will not show. Paying the high asking prices it's not acceptable to me. Anyone willing to pay $200 to $400 US for a cheap rubber strap?
They have vintage style 19mm and 20mm on uncleseiko.com It looks just like the old ones but at a normal price.
Really? While that's probably a very upstanding site run by a reputable seller, the word "uncle" spoils it! I hope he isn't selling any "prototypes".
I wouldn't pay US$200-400 for a cheap rubber strap either. There are a few reproductions around for US$30-40. I have a few and they look good.
I wouldn’t take candy from him in the park or check out puppies in his van but I bought one of those vintage style straps and it seems to be pretty high quality and looks nice
you mean Tropic style straps ? I hate them, it just looks cheap, it is certainly perfect for diving but i am not going to swim with a vintage watch anyway . I have 2 or 3 in a box, i remove them immediatly when i get one so i would never spend 1$ for that ... 400$ ? seriously ? that is more that i ever payed for a watch.
A other vote for uncle Seiko here. Does good quality work. A lot of the vintage Seikos are 19mm and that is his specialty.
The high asking prices on the tropic and tropic style straps is insane. I'm not a big fan of them. However I'm in the process of restoring a Zodiac diver model. When the service is completed. I want to put the original type strap on the watch. From the catalog picture the diver in the center of the ad. Wearing the rubber dive strap is made by SUB. They are available so far the least expensive one I found is a little over $80US dollars shipped and that IMHO is not worth the cost.. Since I'm going through the Sea wolf I have I may as well make the watch period correct. I have plenty of options for straps and bracelets. However the watch came on the SUB diver strap
I was looking for a strap for a Zodiac and the prices were nearly the same as the watch. I settled for a RevO Nato and a reproduction rubber strap on a Seiko.
@voere can you post a photo of the watch you are restoring? If I remember correctly it was very nice.
Very Nice Seiko's you posted! I purchased a reproduction strap for a Seiko. The strap looks good however it is not all that comfortable to wear. The rubber is fairly stiff and hard more so than the original straps.
This Super Sea Wolf with a little TLC it will make a nice example. I would love to wear this watch now. I wore it for a day. And I like the watch. However with the V.72 movement that is not a wise thing to do especially the movement in this one needs a good service. With a new crystal, all gaskets and service this Sea Wolf will look fine in my book. The watchmaker that will do the work has a great stash of V72 movement parts and he can cut crystals if necessary. Last time I met with him he told me he may have an original crystal When I was at his shop he did not have time to check his stock of parts.
Yes, they are a bit stiff and hard but I like them all the same. They feel secure. Nice Super Sea Wolf, that'll clean up nice, please keep us updated with the progress.
The tropic`s in 20mm works perfect on 19mm or you. By 18mm you put om each side a 0,5mm crown rubber gasket. That looks and works also perfect. Photo is a 22mm that works perfect on my 21mm Zodiac watch
