Check out watchesbyhourminutesec.com, it’s a good site for pocket watches with good descriptions. Jones and Horan is solid, as someone has said.

16 size is the classic size for American railroad watches. 19 and 21 jewel watches tend to be better, ie. better decorated movements.

Lots of great pocket watches around. The market for buyers is good at the moment.

Agreed - 16 is most common for men, followed by 18. 12 is most common for women. This is a consideration when looking for parts or donor movements.

Strongly considering an Illinois Bunn Special. The
movement decoration alone seems worth the price of admission. I was outbid on a fine example this morning but the hunt continues. If anyone has any suggestions or warnings on these, I’d love to hear it.
