Vintage Omega's in Bangkok?

Hi everyone,
I'm headed to BKK for work soon, and am keen to look at some timepieces. Traditionally a vintage Seiko guy but have my eye on vintage/ used Omega's. Any go-to places? Have seen some pics of the Schumacher Speedy reduced, red dial, which tickles my fancy. Any advice appreciated.

When I was a student backpacker, I bought my dad a Rolex from a street market in Bangkok. Cost about £5 probably. I'd avoid those places.

I've always wondered what it takes for someone to be bothered to be so completely boring on the internet. Also what is a 'student backpacker'? You were just learning back then? Now you're a professional backpacker? That's fantastic stuff.

You'll have more luck with vintage Japanese than omega. There was an omega dealer in Siam Centre but he got moved out, to I don't know where.

There are odd traders around, mostly rubbish or nearly new.

fortune town had a Japanese watch dealer, and MBK has some but the vintage guys come later.

It's pretty thin pickings. Better to jump on a plane to HK!

Tiny Iota, PISTOLPETE is my birth name and it has been used as a bullying weapon against me since I was a kid. I admit I was a tiny bit sensitive there.

Spacefruit thanks for the info, will be going to HK soon.

As an ex student backpacker (meaning a student who is backpacking) I would suggest going to Patpong I or Patpong II, you will be able to find anything you want there. Just ask anyone for 'Vintage Omega' Wont find NOS but certainly used and sure you should ask for a Speedy.

I have been to Bangkok several times in the last 10 years..and Bangkok offers a lot!
but unfortunately not many opportunities to buy nice and cheap vintage Omegas

there are only 3 "proper" stores that mainly concentrate on vintage timepieces:
http://bk.asia-city.com/shopping/article/old-timers
...their prices are ridiculous.
take the chrono24 prices and add another 20%; thats Bangkok

interestingly they have no kind of vintage "watch scene"

there are some smaller stores/stands in the MBK which sell "used" watches
their prices are extreme and usually they only offer no name watches

another place is the Jatujak weekend market - its an over dimensional flee market;
you might find something there - but be prepared..
the Thai are very clever and fantastic business people;
they use the internet and they know exactly what their products are worth

So out of my experience Bangkok is not the best place to buy vintage Omegas

If you should be successful I would appreciate sharing that experience with us

Can't help you with the watches but head over to Chinatown, meander down this crowded alleyway and find Hong Kong Dim Sum, right next to Hong Kong Noodles: 13°44'32.1"N 100°30'32.9"E. You'll come back to thank me later.

Chatuchak or weekend market at the end of the BTS line have a section specifically for vintage watches. I think it is sections 22-26. They sell vintage Omega's, some very nice pieces but their prices are high.
