Holiday watch shopping in Bangkok, Speedmaster triple date or Seamaster?

Hello everyone, I’m new to the community and am reaching out for some advice and guidance, I’m currently in Thailand for a 2 month holiday and have been looking for an Omega watch for myself and found this one advertised on the internet from a small shop in Bangkok.

They want about $2,500 USD for the triple date, depending on the current exchange rate. I also have my eye on a 2014 Seamaster 300m ceramic for about $3,500 USD

I am leaning towards the triple date, because it is less expensive and closer to my budget.
Opinions and recommendations are welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance

That's a hard one the SMP is really versatile with the WR and overall ruggedness. Its a beautiful watch too.

The triple date is special, never seen one in real life and seldom in the forum. I like the angeled bezel and the dial layout. And for some strange reason I really like the moon shaped date pointer.

For the first time I would pick a Speedy over a SMP.

Good luck with your choice, both are great watches, so you might consider getting both. So the question is whitch one do you buy first and whitch one do you save up for and buy later.

As much as I would prefer the SMP-C, I would go with the Speed Master Triple Date as they are quite rare these days

I kinda hate the bezel on the triple date, and think it is a 'too busy' watch, I've never been a fan. The other thing that broke it for me is that the month doesn't roll over automatically (IIRC).

That said, you should step back and think about what you love more. The Speedmaster isnt a particularly good deal (in fact, there are 3 triple dates on reddit in the last ~2 weeks that are cheaper!).

Seamaster at 3500 is a 'better' price, as asking prices tend to stay around $4k for them.

This, 100%. If you pick a watch primarily because it fits your budget, there is an incredibly good chance you won't be happy with it long-term.

These are two very different models-- which style would you rather have?

Deja vu ... sort of. These watches are SO different ... don't you have a preference?

Um, yeah, the month does roll over. I change the day earlier in the 30th to the 31st, and in the morning it's the correct month.

Oh. Interesting! I could have sworn when I was looking at triple dates at one point that the only way to advance the month was the pusher.

Doesn't make it less ugly, but at least 1 less complaint.

I absolutely love mine. I had a new one in 1998 with a white dial that I had to sell in the early 00s. When I got back on my feet the blue one was the first watch I searched for and bought. But while it was being serviced in 2022 I bought this Diver 300 because I wanted a Seamaster. But as I said in the other thread, servicing the triple costs almost half of what it's worth, so maybe keep that in mind.

You have to use the pusher if it has been stopped for a long time. Keep it on a winder and I only change the day when needed.

The Seamaster 212.30.41 was the watch I was originally looking at, one of my huge concerns is that this being Asia, I suspect that that there is a higher risk of buying something that is not authentic, and I understand that it’s harder to fake a Speedy than a Seamaster.

What is the best way to check if the Seamaster is authentic?

There are dozens of tells from the HeV being in slightly the wrong position to Crooked and bad applied text/logo, wrong lume color, caseback issues, bracelet quality, &c &c. With the specific reference you're looking at, the cal 2500D, it has a 25,200 beat per hour (bph) rate. No fake that I have ever seen has the proper beat; fakes beat at 28,800. You can time it with a phone app well enough to know if it's real or use a timegrapher if you want to do that.

I didn't see anything incorrect with the one you shared above. You can always post pictures on the "is this watch real or fake" thread:

And I also recommend that you look through that thread on your own time.

I don't know that I have ever seen a good fake- I mean, anything even approaching a decent fake- of this watch, so with a little bit of knowledge, I think you'll be okay.

Happy New Year everyone…I’m finding out that if you see something that you like, you need to jump on it, so far it’s been 3 swings and a miss. First miss was the blue Planet Ocean titanium, second miss was this beautiful piece,
and most recently this one
I’m finding some beautiful pieces at what I think are reasonable prices, but it is frustrating not to be able to snag them.

Shouldn’t this 2231.80 have a bond style bracelet, or did the Electric Blue titanium also come on a speedmaster style bracelet? The official Omega site photo only shows it on a Bond style bracelet.

I requested that the shop put both of the original watches, the Triple Date, and the SMPc on a time graph machine, and surprisingly they did it, the Triple Date is running at -16 and the photo shows some marks that were not in the photos on their website.

As for the SMPc I got a strange reply that the time graph machine was unable to pick up the movement because it is a co axle, and has a magnetic shield? I find that statement very strange.

Right now unfortunately I’m not getting a warm fuzzy feeling about this deal.
