Hi Folks,

I'm being offered the below watch for 1200€ ( $1,400).

I don't see any red flags on the watch, correct hands, dial looks original with a nice patina; the crown is marked and is correct I believe; case back comes with retaining ring.

The 30.10 mouvement isn't in pristine condition but isn't the worst I have seen. It's had a recent service (I don't have the exact date yet, I am waiting on the seller to respond);

What do you think of the watch? Is 1200 a top end price for this 2374?
Thanks in advance for your help

Kind regards
Slev

It’s a nice watch. Case looks to be in above average condition, but dial is spotted.

Due to condition issues with the dial, I would not pay US$1,400 for this watch (even if this price included VAT). In my mind, it’s worth about half of that, maybe a little more.

These must be the “before service” photos.

Hi folks,

thanks for your input, much appreciated. The seller told me the last service was in 2019; Not so recent then...

Thanks for your help,

It has condition issues, but if you like it, you could offer half of the asking price.

I would not buy even if it was 600-700 $. Thats not what I call a nice patina dial.
You can find a lot better watches for 800-1000.

PS: I only believe a watch has been serviced when the owner shows me a bill/service paper.

Hi again,

Thank you very much fo your time and feedback!
Would the dots on the dial indicated water issues in past?

Possibly. More likely that the original lacquer was damaged by radiation over a long period of time. This would allow humidity to get under the lacquer and damage the dial, again over a long period of time.

Hope this helps,

Hi,
many thanks for your input, much appreciated;
The EU market for the 2374s seems bonkers, not a single decent watch is under a grand. The one above is by far the most decent one out there, and the original advertised price is 1690€ (i.e. $1,975). It's obviously well overpriced since it has not sold, but the other watches amongst which redials or damaged dials, heavily worn cases or with replaced parts (crown/hands), the ball park is 1000€-1170$...

And on the other end of the spectrum, the 2375s (same watch, just smaller) will be around 500€-600€ / 590$-700$. Less material I guess😕
Again, thanks for your help, learning every day!

Kind regards

I think a lot depends on the case size. It's a sweet little bumper and the damage seems to be evenly spread (could call it patina really). Two years ago (in London) this would have been about £400 (34mm case size) - now I'm seeing similar for £600? If it was gold - £1000. But it's not.

It's typical for the vast majority of watches listed at any given time to be ridiculously overpriced. That means nothing to me and actually doesn't provide any useful information about the market. They are just sitting there month after month, and all the collectors are ignoring them. Get used to it. You might have to wait for many months and look at hundreds of examples before you find a good one at a fair price. Totally normal.

Case size is a huge determinant of price for these vintage watches. If you like the smaller watches, you can save money.

I also think its an old redial.
Sometimes its tricky to tell with these old redials as the paint develops some patina and makes it looks somehow legit.
As I said, I would not buy it at all at any price, let alone hundreds of euros.
There are tons of better watches out there. I know in some markets prices are high....but consider paying a premium for a good condition watch, not for a “tired” one with question marks!

All, many thanks for your input much appreciated.
Market is what it is but I am struggling to understand why sellers are just happy with letting a watch, overpriced for months and months? If they are running a business surely they need to turn the money around?

To me the dial looks okay, both in terms of font used and the design; but then I'm still learning 😀

Thanks again for your help,

Much appreciated!
