Hey everyone,

I have a most likely 1965 omega seamaster that I already own through inheritance and was wondering to get some more information on it. I have taken it to watch service and was told it was a caliber 501 but can’t find any information in that.

the box in the photos seems to be for a different omega and the strap is a replacement

Hi Danyon and welcome!

It’s hard to give good feedback as the pictures are very blurry. My guess, judging by the style of the case, is that you have an Omega Seamaster with the reference number 2846, which will be from the mid to late 1950s. If you have a watchmaker open the watch for you, the reference number is on the inside of the caseback and will look something like this:

The picture above also shows you a caliber 501, a beautiful and solid automatic movement. There’s an 8-digit number on it, the serial. Take a picture of it, it’ll help us determine a little more precisely when the watch was produced.

It looks like a nice piece to remember a relative. Let us know what other information you were looking for - from what little I can see so far I’d guess it’s in an attractive condition to be actively worn, that the dial was restored at some point, and that hands, crown, case etc appear original and correct for the reference.

Agree with the above on both fronts. Separately, with noting that the 501 movement was also used in Omegas first true dive watch, the 2913 so your example shares its workings with pieces currently fetching over £10k!

What’s the diameter in mm excluding the crown? I suspect it’s 31-32mm, in which it may be a 2814. If it’s 34.5mm, then it’s probably a 2846.

Looks like a midsize model, maybe a reference 2828 with cal. 470.
