Vintage Omega Seamaster Cosmic 136017-Tool 107 Help/Thoughts

Hi everyone,

I am new to the watch collecting world and would like to get your guys' thoughts and opinions on one of the first vintage watches I've gotten. The Seamaster Cosmic 136017-Tool 107, I got this for what I believe was a decent price below $400. Upon receiving the watch I have noticed that the crown/stem cannot perform the quick set date function and that the crown is not original but an aftermarket piece (did some looking online and I believe my model can't? Please correct me if I am wrong). I am open to going to a vintage watchmaker to have them fix up the dial alignment and all but wanted to get your guys' thoughts on the condition and whether it's worth returning or fixing it up.

(I am also unsure of where to buy an original crown/stem if I do end up repairing it - so any guidance there would be appreciated) 😀

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately you have not purchased good example.

In addition to the incorrect crown and issues with the date, the hands are incorrect and I believe the dial has been refinished (would need better photos).

Return it if you can.

And read this before making another purchase:

Although I think the dial is original, it’s still a mess with mouldy green lume along with the other issues mentioned and I’d return it if you can.

Welcome to the watch world. It’s a learning curve although the cosmics in decent condition are a bit more available than other models. If you can’t return it just service it and wear it. I don’t think I’d bother getting a new crown etc.

Thank you! I'll send some clearer photos later today. Fortunately the window to return is still open and I've been able to get your guys' expertise here before making my next decision 😀

Hi and welcome!

I can only agree with @X350 XJR , if possible try and return the watch.
The other option would be to live with the dial, and get a service?
I do hope your watchmaker knows his way with these?
They open up from the front...

Here is an amazing thread that you could read (thanks @Nupero !

Good luck!

Thank you! I was actually on that thread last night and was reading up before making this post! I would say at the moment I am a rather casual collector I suppose I could live with the dial. But I can send some better photos later as I sent them late last night to get some more clarity

As mentioned here are more photos, given the thoughts and insight from y'all I am leaning towards returning it while the window is open

It’d be a shame to get advice and ignore it.
Return it and start looking afresh.
Plenty of watches out there and plenty of time to find something.

I agree with others: return the watch. Lots of beautiful & original Cosmics around, no need to settle for this.

You're absolutely right, hopefully I didn't come across as ignoring the advice. I am very grateful to get the input and thoughts from everyone who has replied

That said, I'll return it and keep my search going. Thanks again everyone! Hopefully I'll post again soon with a better pick once I get more knowledgable with how to choose a good one 😀
