Vintage Omega Seamaster Authenticity Check: Redial?

Hi all,

Found the below watch for sale. I've read the 'learn to fish' thread but am unable to get any photos of the movement. Claim to be 'not watch people's and this is an inherited piece.

Obviously the bracelet is not genuine but to your trained eyes what does the rest look like?

I am incredibly new to this so would appreciate any and all guidance. TIA!

Well, if the bracelet is 'aftermarket' 😉, and I agree with you on that, then I’d be suspicious about the rest of the watch.

I don’t know as much as I should about black dial Seamasters but they’re a popular redial and, although the photos are too poor to rely on, I'm even more doubtful given the white lettering and markings on black. What does the seller say about it? Original? Refurbished? Repainted?

I’m also also suspicious that the seller has sourced and fitted a £30 bracelet to enhance the appearance to an uninformed buyer yet hasn’t the nous to take it to a watchmaker, get him to photograph the movement and the inside caseback therefore assume it needs a service at a cost of about £300.

So, probably not a bargain.

You haven’t mentioned the price but, unless it’s under £100 and you’re prepared to pay £100 for a beater, I’d steer clear.

Second what Spruce said.

Also the hands have been replaced with completely the wrong type, leading to further suspicion.

The case is over-polished.

Thank you, similar feeling that it's too good to be true sort of thing. The seller isn't letting on much other than 'they took it to a watchmaker and had it verified' I agree the case is far over-polished for my taste, I'm wanting a vintage watch for a reason.

It's on eBay (unsure if I'm allowed to post the link) and ending in a few hours.
The search continues - likely it never ends.

There’s no problem with giving a link and details of price/condition/seller’s assertions if you’re just seeking advice.
There is a problem if you’re posting as a subterfuge for selling on either your own or another’s behalf.

The dial is 100% refinished and the hands are wrong. Pass unless it’s £100. Then probably pass anyway.
