Vintage Omega Railmaster

Hi Friends,

I recently picked up this omega Railmaster below and took a bit of a gamble. Text looks good, omega raised logo on acrylic crystal. However I can’t figure out what reference this is. The seller said it was from the 1960’s. Looks like the 2914-4 but the Swiss made on the bottom is spaced out rather than tight together as I’ve seen on others. Do you think this is a refinished dial? How did I do?

Thanks!
Vespucci

70 year old watch in NOS condition?
Not very likely IMO...
Meet my 1950, 1951 and 1954 specimens 😁

Hi, welcome. This looks more like a replacement dial IMO and the mid case has been refinished. I sometimes buy a watch without seeing the movement and what is inside the case back if the dial, hands and over all look right and call it a gamble. Afraid to say "not well" on this purchase unless you paid very low for it that may be worth the price of the case back and movement (provided it's a 2914). Is return possible?

IMO, whole watch is probably fake.
Agreed on this. Especially if the price was too good to be true.

Did you open the watch or do you have inside pictures?

Though I'm not familiar with this reference I compared it with some 2914-4:

Despite the"Swiss Made" spacing you find these differences:

The Serifs on "Omega" are far more pronounced than on every other one I found

The "M" in Railmaster has a 'hook' on the upper left side which isn't seen on any other example

Together with the fresh lume the dial is -at best- redialed IMO

I'm still pretty shure that on closer inspection this will turn out as fake

Just my 2 cents 😉

Is it possible it could be a re-dial of an original Railmaster and not a "fake"?

just look at the Omega-Logo: fakers can not produce the original (thin) line.
