Sorry, the watch you purchased is a completely different watch than either you have referenced. Look more closely at the case design.

You have this watch, 166.041.

The one in the auction has a very poorly refinished dial and would have actually done considerably better with an original dial. Not rare but uncommon and can fetch well over $1000 if in good condition with an original dial.

Are you talking about the one that sold for $800 or the one that I purchased?

Also, which model is the one I purchased then? That was the only one that I could find in the database that was similar enough to it in terms of look and movement.

When someone describes a watch case as being over polished what they are referring to is what should be nice sharp edges on the case being worn down by extensive polishing. This makes the watch shiney and to the untrained eye a watch in good shape. What polishing does is change the original finish of the case and remove the crisp edges...this kills the value of any watch to most collectors, especially the ones here. One needs to be quite observant when looking at a potential purchase! After looking at a good example the difference is very clear.

Illustrating the difference between an overpolished lug and a crisp one.

Identical model watches - one in 18ct pink, one in 18ct rose - with serial numbers just a few apart.

I am far from an expert here...(just joined actually but a WUS member)..don't forget you're on ebay with these purchases...there is every walk of life there and as many opinions...ppl can ask anything for a watch but it doesn't mean it's worth it, right? So what I ask for a particular watch may be different than the next guy with same piece..(we've all seen that over and over again). I don't think that ebay is really the place to use for a value of a particular watch. I certainly may be wrong though...(that happens at least twice a year and I'm due!)

I don't think that ebay is really the place to use for a value of a particular watch.

Actually, if you check the open auctions that were run to completion it's a great way to get an idea of what market value is. Some listings might end a little high, some a little low, but averaging them out gives a good idea of what a particular model fetches.

Don't bother with the B.I.N. asking prices. Look for completed listings with prices in green. They're the ones that actually sold. The red prices are the ones not attained.

I certainly may be wrong though...(that happens at least twice a year and I'm due!)

Mark it on your calendar then. 😜
