Vintage Omega for girlfriend

Hi everyone,

I am looking into getting my girlfriend a vintage omega, ideally some sort of Quartz De Ville as she is not much of a watch person.
It also does in no way need to be in mint condition as she is, again, not really a watch person and will not care about collectability.

I found this one on Chrono24 which I think is a style she would like but I cannot find a reference number (closest resembling I found is ST 591.0011) so I assume this one is probably not even a real Omega?

Would be very grateful for any advice you have on finding a good deal on vintage women's Omegas in the US as I am a bit out of my depths!

Thanks in advance

Better to post picture instead of links as links disappear with time. Even screen shots ok
Many here won’t open links so you also get better response with picture

Maybe you should just buy from one of the major luxury consignment / reseller sites instead of a platform like Chrono24, which is a mishmash of sellers and doesn't authenticate their watches.

You can google to find sites, but watchfinder and therealreal come to mind. There used to be a site called crownandcaliber, but I think that Hodinkee acquired it and then ran it into the ground.

Edit: I looked briefly at the link, it is a tiny gold-plated quartz cocktail watch in poor condition (water-damaged dial) with an absurd asking price of $300. Watches like this are not currently in much demand and it will be hard to sell at any price, TBH. After 40+ years, the quartz movement may well be near the end of its life, and it would not be worth replacing.

Maybe involve the girlfriend. Being that she’s not much of a watch person. Buying, not liking and not wearing is a waste of time.

She will let you know yes or no on whether she even wants a watch.

She might even prefer multi coloured Swatch watches to match outfits

Depends on which vintage Omega, and what your girlfriend looks like, but sounds like a good trade to me 😀

I agree with the comment that's better showing her, there's too many factors we don't take into account which are vital into a woman's mind

Buying your girlfriend an old, gold-plated watch with a poor-quality dial because you like vintage watches is a recipe for ending up with no girlfriend. Gifts should be something that she appreciates/wants, not that you like.

If you do want to get her a watch, at least make sure it is new! You can get a lot of nice Seikos for ladies that are at the same price of that DeVille you showed.

Watches are like guns, let her pick it out.
Case in point, my wife's perfectly happy with her Dick Tracey watch and her scandium S&W .38 with laser grips she picked out.

Better check first on her feelings about preowned jewelry/watches. Some have a very negative reaction to this ( my wife being one)
Much safer with new.
I second the new Seiko suggestion. Many very nice ladies options.
Good luck!

I don't think we should assume that the OP is necessarily off-base, he should know what his girlfriend likes. My wife has several vintage watches and she absolutely loves her black 2639 from the early 50s.

I just think that when you're getting someone a gift, you want to make sure it's a nice example.

Absolutely, finely tuned pieces of precision machinery and very personal.
I also agree with the analogy. Worst thing someone can do is buy a handgun for a spouse/girlfriend based on what they like. For instance, I like revolvers - always have. When my wife wanted her own firearm, she hated my revolvers because they were “too heavy” and the trigger too hard to pull. She hated smaller j-frames even more, even using light .38 Special loads. And those are common suggestions to buy for a woman.

After perusing semi-autos at the gun store, she settled on a Smith and Wesson Shield EZ in .380. She can shoot the heck out of it and loves going to the range with me now.

Exactly, guys wanna buy what they like for their significant other, wrong.
After our home invasion where my wife was there alone with only my autos on hand, with zero experience, I took her down and let her pick out the gun she felt comfortable with and then convinced her to take a firearms safety course with it. She's a better shot than me now.

Hello and welcome,
IMO it is better to avoid vintage quartz movements because they are not durable. For a similar budget, you can have more robust and repairable manual movements. An Omega De Ville 511.0392 would be a good choice.

I see what you are saying. I was thinking of the purpose of the object, and for the life of me I could not work out how to tell the time with a gun!
