Seamasters aren’t my thing but:
Yes, if gold plated the plating will wear off
No, it’s not worth £1,599 ( or even half of that)

On top of which, IMHO, the watch is unattractive and looks like a bar of soap.

I don't think I'd buy a gold-plated watch as a gift. I'd stick with solid cases (gold or stainless) or gold-capped. And while that particular Seamaster case has its fans, personally I'm not one of them.
