What did omega do with the dial? And did you receive the original hands back from omega?

I was told they just cleaned it with whatever special equipment they have. I wish I had gotten an itemized list of exactly what was done. They just replaced the seconds hand and i did get the OG one back as well as gears/screws/crown and a bunch of other small pieces that I have no idea what they are. I think since they put a new seconds hand in there, they gave the OG minute/hour hands a good clean/polish so they match the new seconds hand. Im guessing they did the same for all the hour markings, and relumed everything.

Ok. Well, the most important thing is that you like the watch. It's a great heirloom so enjoy your watch.

If you look at the original pics it looks to me like it had seen some intervention before. All the dial lume was missing and the hand lume had the toothpaste whiteness of Superluminova. It looks like Omega relumed the original dial with a generous amount of SL. Functional but perhaps not to the purist collector's taste. The hour and min hand look to be those that were on it when it was sent but now match the dial lume. It could have been a lot worse if they had chosen to replace and not relume the dial. It's now a nice wearable piece. The dial came up well so clearly was pretty mint under the heavily scratched crystal.

As one of the first to advise NOT to send to Omega, I think you got back a fine watch without losing much if any vintage charm. They cleaned the dial, the relume looks good and case got gentle polish removing most of scuffs. And you have a fully serviced watch with a warranty you can wear!

Check the service receipt there may be reference and serial number somewhere. With snap on Caseback and dial with Chronometre spelling it’s probably a 2852 with a cal 502 or 505 movement. Since it was recently done the AD might be able to request more details for you.

The case had clearly been worn/ polished before the service and looks better now.
Congrats on your beautiful heirloom and enjoy wearing it.

Hi all.

The watch is finally back. I did what you all told me not to do... 😬
I was naive and scared, so I sent it with my local Omega AD, they sent it to Swatch watch group here in the US and then it quickly went to Switzerland after that. Overall took a little over 6 months, which was painful. The worst part is that I hardly got any information about the status throughout this whole ordeal. It cam back with a nice small Omega box, but unfortunately no information on serial #, year, and itemized list of exactly what was done. I did get all the components they replaced back, which is nice I guess.

That said, I am stunned at how nice it looks. I know that the crystal was replaced, seconds hand was replaced because it was bent apparently, and new crown. I was told the dial wasn't re-painted by the person at the AD here, but am not 100% sure and honestly don't really care because it looks amazing to me. And I must say, its comforting to get the stamp of approval from Omega on the quality of service done. It is now mine to proudly wear daily!

Very worth it. You are however really lucky that they took a minimalist approach.

I did request more info from the AD so we shall see.
What astonishes me the most is the lack of communication from Omega themselves. Everything goes through multiple middle men, which in this case is mostly the Swatch mega group. I tried so hard multiple times and got very little in response, which is really a shame from a company with such prestige as Omega.

On the service receipt I do have a produce reference # (OCSAB910221750) but I've had no luck looking that up. For the serial number it says n/a 🙁. The AD person told me maybe the serial # was worn off. Either way they will reach out and try to get all the info for me.

The alternative was to send it to Sutcliffe Hansen (I enjoy watching the Wristwatch Revival videos), but that would have likely been more expensive!

All in all the watch is absolutely beautiful to me, I will enjoy wearing it!!

I’d be very surprised if they serviced this if in fact it has no serial. That would be against their previous policy. Or so is my understanding. As you suggest, the full info prob just hasn’t got back to you yet. It’s for this reason it’s generally best to approach the service dept directly and not via a dealer.
