Does anyone know what needs to be done to remove the movement from this front loading IWC case? I removed the crown (and split stem) and pushed the other half split stem back into the first position (as one would do when removing a unishell SMD). The movement seems to be held in place as it doesn’t budge at all but I can’t see any sort of clamp or tension ring that can be adjusted. Any thoughts? I’m wanting to confirm that the case is solid 18k gold as advertised but can’t make out the hallmarks on the case.
Take it to a jeweler. They have non-invasive ways of testing gold purity. Leave watchmaker’s skills to the experts. The dial on that piece is excellent. I’d hate to see it ruined by a slip of a screwdriver. gatorcpa
I know - I was wanting to check the gold purity so that I can authorize payment to the seller. The close to foot of snow we got in Vancouver will make it tricky to get to the watchmaker/goldsmith today.
That looks like a 18K Helvetica hallmark to me. I've had a frontloading IWC and seem to remember that the dial had to be turned a bit to allow it to get out of the case.
Had my watchmaker remove the movement to confirm that the case was 18k. Interesting fact - the watch didn’t have a bezel when I bought it, a problem as the bezel holds the crystal. I had a spare bezel from a monocoque SMD that surprisingly appears to be a perfect fit. I’ll post some pics when my watchmaker is done with the service.
Right because I’m going to be the db to ask my watchmaker’s to rotate the rotor a few times so that I can snap some extra photos.
