Vintage Grand Seiko Cal. 3180

This is another catch that was not expected but fortunately landed on my hands. Its the very first model of the Grand Seiko that is powered by the chronometer rated cal. 3180 manual wind movement. I believe this particular watch is one of the earliest produced with a manufacture date of April, 1960. It also has the very rare painted logo dial which was used only for less than one year when introduced in 1960. This model had only a 3 year run from 1960-63. After the painted logo, they switched to engraved logos and towards the end of its production, Seiko changed it to applied logos. The case is an 80 micron gold rolled case with a diameter of 35mm. The dial is great for its age.

Just proves again what a great manufacture Seiko is. Asking myself why I have none in the stable. Lovely.

Seiko still the best value for money imho.

Great looking watch. I've noticed in the past year or so that the demand (and price) for these and similar models (champion/sportsman/lord marvel etc) has gone up, which isn't very surprising.

Its very true that certain models are really appreciating well like the 6159 7010 600m Tunas, 62mas, 6159 7001 300m, etc.. But overall, most Seikos made during the 60s - 70s have gone up in value.

It’s no Zenith Cal 135 but I have a soft spot for this and the Cal 430 they are splendid.
