Vintage Gold / Gold Cap in UK

This a little bit of a random question and might not be allowed and I will delete it needed.

I am looking for gold coloured (cap or solid) vintage watch in the UK. My son (10) appreciates what I have in my collection and thinking it would be nice to try and get him one for himself ideally for Christmas.

If anyone knows of any online or elsewhere please let me know. I would like a good example as it could be the start of his collection.

Thanks
R

Two questions:

1. What is your budget?
2. Does your son have any preference in brands?

If nothing else, that will tell us if your request is realistic.

@gatorcpa thanks for the reply in terms of budget ideally £500ish or plus and minus from there could go higher if needed

No preference on brands I only have omega (and a Rolex) so limited knowledge outside of those and even if those compared to most here 😝

If you must stay within the UK, eBay is probably your best bet.

I ran a quick search for “Vintage Omega Geneve”, and came up with a lot of possibilities at your price range:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=vintage+omega+geneve&_trksid=p4432023.m4084.l1313

This one stood out to me:

Original strap, buckle and box included. And solid 9K too.

But I have no clue if it is what you are looking for.

PS - since I’m in the U.S., these links may or may work for you. If not, just run the search above.

I could consider outside of the UK as well as I know more choice in the US it’s just I need to factor in the tax and delivery time.

I will have a look at those above thank you very much

I think you should target UK sales, it’s kind of late already to source it elsewhere, allowing a few days to find the watch and then unknown time around customs etc.

Are you sticking necessarily with vintage? Or could it newer but vintage looking? One thing to consider for a 10-year old is water resistance, shock etc. which isn’t the best with vintage normally. There are various brands which are really nice looking within your budget, for example Baltic, Orient, Smith (although tough to source) etc.

I think Baltic for instance have a showroom in London? Could be a nice experience to choose and pick up a watch there, if ever you’re close.

This is a reputable reseller, although there is limited choice within your budget.

Just given my son in law a stainless steel version of this 165.041.

These are generally available for £300-400 in the UK so no tax involved.

Despite being slim watches they tend to wear quite big on the wrist and are fine with suits or jeans

I would suggest not giving a 10 year old a mechanical watch. Buy him a Swatch watch and see how he handles that to see f he’s going to take care of it properly

Time only model and let him pick it and see what happens

Seems a little bling bling for a 10 year old.

Maybe a nice Seiko 5 to start out with?

Available on Amazon for probably around £100 to start. Pretty much indestructible and if anything goes wrong, you just replace it.

Absolutely, I’d read 10yo when I first read the post but had forgotten about it when I posted my response.

That’s not a bad option actually. He likes nice things and takes care of them well he wouldn’t have it for school everyday would more to wear at weekends etc. I can talk to him about my watches and he has an interest there but maybe it’s a little early for him to has his own.
