Hi OF Community!

Are there any cool vintage desk clocks for watch nerds like us? Looking forward to your recommendations (with pics, of course).

Thanks!

I have this art deco Jaeger 8 days, 140mm diameter excluding the crown 😉

I have more than a few, but rarely show photos because they tend to be so reasonably priced relative to vintage watches, and I'd like to help keep it that way! 😁

I hope this doesn't fall outside of your parameters since the PCB is quite recent but hey at least the tubes themselves are 40+ years old 😉

I like 8 days aircraft clocks. A pic of my latest addition :

A variant of the Breitling 618-12, from an American Airlines aircraft.

There is also the Waltham CDIA courtesy to the US Navy, with the added bonus of a date :

I'm sure I can find the answer after Googling, but how are these powered? Are they manually wound up or run using an external power source such as a battery?

Manual wind of course
As most aircraft clocks AFAIK.

"8 days" 😉

Yeah after seeing the "8 Days" it should've been obvious as to its internal power reserve 🤦

Good to see other aircraft clocks, I used to have my Waltham A-13A on a self made 🤦 desk stand but it is now a fixture of our motorhome and I must confess I love it although I never use the flyback feature 😀

I prefer 8 days for usability as a desk clock. (some were 24 or 36h,even 2 or 5 days)
I really wonder what was the argument for it back then. Mounting an 8 days clock in an airliner or bomber maybe, but a fighter?

My last vintage car (Austin 10/4) had an 8 day clock in it, beautiful peice of equipment, a good 6 inch diameter and wonderfully accurate ( as was the Speedo). Would be very tempted to find another one of those clocks and make a desk mount housing for it, I must look up a photo of it.

There's nothing quite like French bronze clocks with Sevres porcelain if you have a large desk.

And you can match this with a nice Tiffany Studios desk set:

Car clock you say? Various Jaeger models from the 20s exist, up to 8 days. This is a simple one, actually a pocket watch cleverly repurposed :

Easy to mount on anything, there is a threaded nut at the back.
