First off. I'm sorry for the terrible photos. Im asking the seller to get me better ones as I type this.
As a newbie to the watch collecting hobby, I'm quickly learning to walk slowly as I've made some good, but some bad quick decisions.
I was sent this photo of an interesting watch that I'd like viewpoints on.
I'm not concerned of a scam because I've already met the gentleman but this watch came up after my visit. He lives too far to pop over to his house at the moment.

1) The dial has the word "Antimagnetic" below the pinion. I've read Omega didn't do that?
2) it's an 18k case with two case backs. I'm not sure if the outer is gold or stainless. What should these be
I've seen combinations in Omega watches using gold bodies with stainless backs from the 50s, but is this common for certain models to have G?
3) do any of you have a guess as to reference number for such a watch. I'll post better photos if he can provide them..
Regards

You are going to need to post better photos. This could easily be a fake.

I appreciate that, as I've mentioned I'm waiting for better pictures. What I'm asking is do these vintage watches state Antimagnetic and are the gold cases often seen with stainless backs. Better photos will come, but does anyone recognize this in spite of the poor pic as to a reference number for me to do more homework. Thank you.

Gold cases do not have stainless backs. Sometimes gold-plated cases have stainless backs. It won't have a reference number if it's a fake.

I’ve seen that before. It’s just a Chronographe Suisse not an Omega at all.

Thanks. Do you concur the *Antimagnetic " call-out is not likely found on an Omega of this age or any other Omega for that matter? I'm still waiting for better photos of the watch and movement. He stated the outer case back is gold, and inner is stainless

The same thought was going through my head, especially when I saw the 20mm strap.

I agree I can’t think of example of an Omega with that dial marking.

If I’m right you won’t find any other Omega markings on the watch. It’ll probably have an unbranded Landeron or Venus movement inside. Dont be too impressed by the 18k markings. It will be solid gold but the lugs are hollow and the case gold weight is very slight 8-10g at most. You can bend the lugs on these changing straps clumsily.

Here are some better pics. Now that I see them I will say the word CHRONOGRAPHE looks " funky".am I right in my original concern of the word ANTI MAGNETIC shouldn't be there? Now waiting for the movement pic. It has two back cases & has a gold outer back case.

As I thought. It’s not an Omega. What’s the price?

Well it is real but modified to look like something it is not ie it is a real Chronographe Suisse not an Omega. These go for £650-950 depending on condition and state of servicing. That one doesn't look great it must be said. The min value is dictated by the gold value really.

I actually have owned a couple myself (minus the fake branding). They have a place in the market, how else can you buy a solid gold Swiss chronograph for less than a grand? His price is steep but not ridiculous at around £1300 GBP. That's more like what a dealer would offer it at when serviced.

Tell me, did he describe it as an Omega or did you assume that based on the logo?

He did call it a vintage Omega but didn't fuss much when I queried him regarding my doubt of it being legit . Cheers

Note that the amount of gold in these cases is much less than you would expect. Very thin case-back, hollow lugs, etc.

Btw, has Omega ever put the wording "chronographe" on their chronographs? I can't think of any samples.

The closest in this type of dials were used in ref 2278 chronographs.

Thank you for this info, I was going by the posts on this thread at the time I was searching. Every day is a learning day for me.
