Hi guys! What about the dial of this nice 2494 - 7 / 2657 sc ? swiss made inscription is missing, logo is a bit small, but I'm not 100% sure it has been reprinted. what are your thoughts?

    Welcome to OF!

I don’t know bumpers, and I am definitely not the most experienced here, but I believe that the dial feet should be brass, and not silver in colour. This assumes that what I think are the dial feet are the dial feet

If it is a redial, then it is well done IMO. Do you want to share a photo of the inside of the case back so a fuller assessment can be done?

I’m not sure about this one.

The dial looms to be an original Omega dial. If it’s a redial, it’s an amazing job.

The movement looks to be in nice condition as well.

However, I’m not sure if the two were together at the beginning. The OVD shows that Ref. 2657 (the sub-seconds version) should have the earlier cal. 342, without the swan-neck regulator.

Could be all good, could be a frankenwatch. Still an attractive piece. I just wouldn’t overpay for it.

Thank you, I didn't investigate about the caliber.
    Seller request was 1800€ (eBay)
We closed the deal this morning for 1150... Hope it will be a good purchase

That's quite a high price. But if you enjoy the watch and like it, it will be worth it in the long term.

My gut tells me this is a frankenstein/nice redial as well. I’ve never seen thick lugs with that style of Omega logo (the whole dial looks like its from the early 40’s).

I have a watch from 1950 with a similar style dial and handset. Per the Omega Database, that's not far off from the time the Ref. was introduced into the catalog (1949). What troubles me more is that the movement would date to around 1953 or so.

While I have found that you can never say never with vintage Omega, that large of a time gap between catalog date and movement date makes me uncomfortable. However, it is possible that this case reference was produced for several years and the OVD is only the date of introduction.

I really, truly don't know, and I don't know if Omega would know either.

The dial looks a bit off to me - the omega symbol and writing at the top looks a bit low to me and not sure if the dial itself is a shade too small for the case. If a redial though as gator said it's well done.

My theory is that the dial and movement belong together and the dial is too good not to be original, and the hands match the appliques on the dial... and since it doesn't match the reference number well enough... the dial, movement, etc was recased.

But it's nice how it is, too.

Mine with a similar dial...an old one of yours, Mike and as Gator mentioned, also from the late 40's.
I fully agree that they are different, gut says redial, brain tells me that I don't know sh.. from shinola and shut up.
Here's my photo and I also have a better one from @MSNWatch but I won't post without permission.

The dial reminds me of the Ref. 2500 Centenary:

Just without the applied logo and "Swiss Made". Not gold, of course.

Probably I've overpaid this piece... What would be a fair price in your opinion?

Looks ok to me. And the price paid was fair.

Late ref 2657 would often have calibre 344 with the swan neck regulator, so no doubt it's not a recase.

The anomaly is on the printed logo and no Swiss Made, both of which are the norm of 1950 and before, but the script of Automatic it's of later type though.

The whole watch seems to be legit with an original but outlier dial.

The case is a bit too shiny for this vintage, but a jumbo from the 50s with dial and movement in that good condition is not gonna be worth any less than what you paid for, especially from dealers. More than fair, IMO.

    Nice!

It would be real easy to be happy with that watch. Enjoy it!
