Hello There, I am thinking about buying this nice looking 1950's era gold filled Omega Cal.420 watch. I know a lot about Omega watches from the 1960's and 1970's but I am no expert about ones from the 1950's. Other then the crown, the watch looks original (I can see lume dots at the base of each hour marker and the hands are lumed). It even has a dedication on the case back with the date 8-31-56 I could not get the pics of the inside of the caseback to save so I have to list the info on it. The case back has the following: PX6240 4435.80 The Omega Triangle with the Omega symbol in the middle So is this a correct Cal. 420 watch? How does gold filled watches hold up to daily wearing? Thanks
Hi, The watch looks legit. The dial looks OK, but relumed hands. The movement is correct and has a nice and homogenous patina. If the gold layer is rather thick and without huge lacks, no problem with wearing a gold filled watch everyday.
Thanks for your reply. Somebody beat me to buying it. I am not a gold colored person (whether it be a solid gold watch, gold filled or gold plated watch) However the allure of a nice looking 1950's era Omega for only $150 shipped was strong. I guess by somebody else buying it, I was saved Thanks again for the replies Cheers
Not that it matters now but I can't see anything wrong with the dial either, nor the crown if the case was a non-Omega. I do think the hands look very new compared with the hour markers.
I cannot see anything wrong with the dial either. And for 150$ it would clearly have been a buy for me!
