Hi.
This watch was left to me by my Grandfather. He was a Japanese prisoner of war in Burma. The watch was given to him by a friend whose life my grandfather saved as a thank you.
I want to know more about the watch and what type it is etc. I know it’s from 1939 due to the serial numbers. Case and watch numbers are different but heard that is not uncommon of this year of watch. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Tim.

Wonderful heirloom. I can add that the movement appears to be a cal 26.5. Otherwise, I think you know pretty much what can be known.

Thank you my friend. What does the Cal 26.5 mean?

What does the Cal 26.5 mean
It's the "model number" of that particular movement.

Each movement, or caliber, has a unique designator to identify it.

As you can see, the 26.5 had quite a few variations.

Any idea on value? Thinking about insurance.
Value wise, it won't be very much, under a grand as a watch, but the sentimental connection is far greater than the monetary value given the history of the watch to your family.
