·Up for sale is this rare late 1920s Hamilton Tonneau “Engraved” in solid 14 karat White Gold. Much more frequently found with gold-filled case, this is one of the highly desirable Hamilton models produced by the legendary American marque from Lancaster, Pennsylvania with the first generation in-house caliber 987. This great rectangular watch features a beautiful two-tone silver-white dial with luminous Radium-style numerals and is in Excellent to Near Mint vintage condition overall. The watch was sold to me as having an original dial but there is some softness to the printing that might indicate a high quality redial. It has also just been fully overhauled by my Master Watchmaker and comes with a 6-month movement guarantee for all normal, non-abusive use. Simply put, this beautiful watch is a Grail-level pre-Depression design classic for the advanced Hamilton collector.
The asking price for this wonderful example of solid white gold Hamilton Tonneau is now MASSIVELY REDUCED to $1250 USD OBRO including fully insured worldwide FedEx shipping. Bank Wire preferred. Paypal is also OK with split fees (+2% to the buyer). Other payment options upon application. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Please contact me at [email protected] for any inquiries.
CASE & CASEBACK: Elegant 3-piece Wadsworth case with engraved bezel in solid 14k white gold measures approximately 34mm long x 27.5mm wide and around 8mm at full crystal height, a beautifully proportioned rectangular dress watch that is relatively large for a Hamilton. The case is nice and sharp with minimal if any signs of polish and crisp scrollwork bezel engraving, albeit missing its original enamel fill/detail. There are only minor marks to the case and the downward-sloping lugs are thick and strong. By my strict standards, I rate this case as solidly Excellent+ vintage condition. The snap-in caseback shows subtle signs of polishing out of a previous dedication and some light scratches but is otherwise Very Good to Excellent. The inner caseback of this Tonneau shows all correct hallmarks for a solid gold Hamilton Wadsworth case of this era.
DIAL & HANDS: Beautiful two-tone silver-white dial with aged luminous Arabics is extremely clean and shows very few marks-- easily Near Mint condition and perhaps a high quality revision but very, very close to the original style and presents beautifully (h/t gatorcpa). The original and correct blued steel hands also appear to retain their original luminous fill and they are likewise Near Mint.
CROWN: Correct unsigned knurled crown (possibly white gold, as well) winds and pulls out to the time-setting position with just a little effort and sits flush to the side of the case.
CRYSTAL: Low, curved glass crystal is very clean--Near Mint.
MOVEMENT: High-grade and beautifully finished 17-jewel manual-wind circular Hamilton caliber 987. The 4.06 million serial number dates it to circa 1928-29 from the best available info. This cal. 987 has just been serviced and is running strong and keeping good time. It is guaranteed for 6 months of normal, non-abusive use.
BAND: This great Tonneau comes on a very nice and brand new brown leather full size strap with brown stitching and steel buckle. This watch takes 18mm straps.
I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form, as this watch was never guaranteed water resistant by Hamilton from new and certainly isn't any more so now. 😉
This great Vintage Hamilton is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
