Video: How I Assess a Speedmaster

Thank you for posting! I've read a lot on your site and have always thought some supplementary video content would be a great addition. I especially enjoyed the section about the movement. I can tell a 321 from an 861 but beyond that, I didn't really know what else to look for.

I would love to see more video content from you. You covered a very good+ watch in this video. Maybe some comparisons to less good examples would be useful? I've also read some posts where you talk about watches that have issues that affect the value, but that are very good wearers. I'd be very interested to see and hear more about that.

Thanks again!

Excellent presentation William!

There was 'fakk all' worth watching on the TV, but a few clicks on the remote control and there you were, like a horological David Attenborough.😀 Very interesting to see Pahawi's case back opener in use and correct dust cover removal.

Could you do one comparing the 105.012 and 145.012 please? (In particular; differences between case backs, pushers and crown)

Very good pacing and quality of audio/video. I'm sure you'll figure out the proper aspect ratio next time.

If I had one suggestion/request it would be to show the things you are comparing. For example, when you state that it has a single-step case back as opposed to a double-step case back, perhaps you could show them side-by-side. Or that service pushers can be spotted, a comparison to these would be helpful. I realize it wouldn't be possible to do for every combination of variables that exist, as that would make for a very long confusing video, but I'm sure you've seen what are the most common variants for a given reference. Or, perhaps, a video dedicated to only showing the variations of indices, side-by-side, followed by a video dedicated to showing the variations of bezels, and so on.

In lock-down, cant help trying to create things. So I made a video.

A lot of people ask me how I assess a speedmaster so I made this video. I am not a natural you tuber, I cant even get the aspect ratio right.

But here you are:

This was really good. I am just starting to collect Omega's and this was helpful. Thank you!

I think for those new to the game it would be awesome to get some single topic assessment advice. For instance, how to evaluate polished vs unpolished, or original lume versus relume, as came up on a recent thread, or what differentiates an average example from a “good” Or “great” example of the same model. Etc. A bit of advice on the finer points that are not as easy to just “look up” via a reputable source (speedmaster101, mwo, etc) and only come from years of experience.

Looks like you incorporated a lot of the feedback here into your second video. I really enjoyed it. Thanks William!

Excellent video again, and this time you turned the phone sideways! 😀

Great balance of facts with your collector's perspective and a wonderful use of your isolation time! Looking forward to more.
