Very unusual 1950s Longines... and quite appealing

He always makes conjectures. Several members have called him out, not just me. With the amount of experienced collectors here, it's akin to him walking into a room with Einstein, Newton, Pythagorus, Turing, and Witten and telling them he's gonna show them how to do math, but then proceeding to screw up algebra. An even bigger problem is he's posting in threads where n00bs are asking for help and they mistake his erroneous conjecture for a solid evaluation.

I can see your point. Maybe write a disclaimer at the start, dx009? Something obvious, so that n00bs aren't misinterpreting you as an authority - unless you are confident?

Maybe the mods should devise a degree system?

Underneath usernames: Dr. Ulackfocus and B.A. dx009? 馃榿

But in all seriousness, I can see your point. Still, seemed harsh.

Being a noob here I would not want to speak out of turn, but just to reassure you and to be fair, I didnt think there was any confusion here, I didn't think @dx009's comments were definite assertions or misleading, to me it it was clear that it was conjecture.

Add- of course I can only comment on my particular case, and I've been at this long enough that I'm not a total novice-- I obviously don't know about other situations you may have in mind.

[rant] There's one thing you both don't understand: I ABHOR PSEUDO-EXPERTS GIVING BAD ADVICE. A forum like this is meant to pass on correct knowledge so the next generation of collectors can take the helm when the current generation rides off into the sunset. Occasionally one of us can be wrong, but not often. And when that rare occasion happens, the person in error is called out by the other veterans.

Despite the sarcasm, hazing / ballbusting, and tomfoolery this is THE place for solid evaluations and experienced opinions on vintage watches of many brands. Omega Forums has built that reputation over a few years. The last thing I want is some half-assed dipshit screwing up everything we've worked to attain. [/rant]

See? This is what I don't like to see.

No need to be bashful, Syrte!

Dx009! Before you type away on that keyboard, ask yourself if the world needs to hear it. Don't post conjecture so freely. ulackfocus has a point.

ulackfocus, I can only assume you've been more polite to him in the past, because the way you're speaking to him makes me uncomfortable. I just don't expect these kinds of heavy insults by a mod. But if this goes on without end...

Some of the veterans here have been the nicest people I have seen, in a long while, on a forum. 馃檮 Calm, patient, mature... 馃憤
It's all good.
