So which omega watches are very rare and how would you spot one if it wasn t obvious to the average man in the street?

There are many different watches and many differing ideas about the definition of the word "rare".

There are four key ways to finding them: Luck, connections, knowledge and deep pockets. Or combinations of the above.

My advice would be if you don't yet know what "rare" is, or where to find it, then you can better concentrate on the watches that you find attractive.

I am only going to buy watches that I like, I tend to lean towards the quirky ones from the 70s or 60s and I have no intention of trying to make money out of them, every watch I buy, I am keeping and going to enjoy.
I have seen a lot of threads about seamaster moon watches and pre moon watches and seen peoples collection of seamaster chronographs and people saying this or that is extremely rare, they all look the same to me, there must be some that are extremely rare that are not seamaster chronographs, I would like to see some pictures, if I knew what to look for.

I still don´t really understand what you want to see. Of course there are rare Omega´s that are not Seamaster chronographs.

How about looking for a nice CK2915 Speedmaster, or a ref 2648 Constellation with a cal 352, or a nice black Seamaster 145.0023......etc

These could be called `rare`, `hard to find` or `seldom seen` all depending on the depth of your pockets!

If you want really hard to find or `very rare` ;) then I suggest you try to track down an Omega Syncro Beat wrist watch, a Tourbillon from the late 1940´s or an Omega power reserve indicator watch, perhaps even a `Kleerbach` would fit the bill.....good luck with your search!

After visiting another forum with a similar thread I found out that a railmaster2777 with a white dial is very rare, or a 18k gold flightmaster is very rare and a 30t2 chronometer is also quite a rare omega watch to find. The syncro beat was also mentioned. What surprised me though was that they are relatively affordable, with the exception of the railmaster, although the only one that had a price on it went for 10,000 dollars in 2011 and the flightmaster which there are only three I think. Watches that there are few of I suppose qualifies for rare in my opinion.

    All i can say....When I hear " Rare" .... I thinking that someone is ordering a Steak !

Come on these items are not "RARE", I think a better term is uncommon....

I remember going to a watch show many years ago and saw a dealer table that was "Filled " with Rolex 1665 Sea Dwellers... at lest 100 of them.... makes you think ....

    Good Hunting

Watch out for "very rare" on eBay. It's often code for "unique Franken."

The ads themselves are rare, medium rare, or medium.

In other words, they're not well done. ;)

One of my favourite examples is in the chronograph world, at any given time go on eBay and Chrono24 and count how many Paul Newman Daytonas there are for sale, then count how many correct CK2915s. Makes you think those broad arrow Speedys are still good value, or at least far better value than a PN.
