What research did you do yourself?

What research did you do yourself?
I was told it was a Chronograph. That's it, and the same guy emailed me this website forum. I would have tried to google every term I could see there but as you can see, there aren't any, even a model name e.g. Seamaster. I went to a watch shop awhile ago to have the other watches fixed and the repair man offered to buy it for EUR****, which I think is ridiculously a lot. The watchshop is in the Strassenbahn passage and if I'm going to sell a watch, it would be at least in a less shady location and to someone who can speak English (we spoke in German, which I am a bit rusty). Plus, feels weird to let go of a watch once worn by your grandpa haha.

And you are ? Any introduction ? This is a collectors site. Not a free valuation/ validation site.... All Infos, you need, are inside. Have it opened and take good pictures. Then research for yourself and come back with your research and we fill in the Blancs...

Thank you. I didn't realize your comment could be cattier than real housewives of Beverly Hills fighting over a cream puff. I don't need a valuation per se - the shopman already gave it a value. and validate? of what? If you are looking for my life story behind this watch, you'd be disappointed. Was handed over to me by my grand oldman (still alive and kicking at 92) - thats it. No fake stories of provenance "collectors" would love to hear although it looked like it survived both world wars. Yeah I tried opening it, it was a waste of time. Isn't it ironic that's its a waste of time. Didn't see anything. If I have seen any, why would I be here? I'd surely googled it myself. Biggest question is why does the shopman wanted an old ugly watch for thousands of Euros when even the original owner [Grandpa] didn't want it anymore.

Maybe a waste of time for you, but the experienced members of this forum will be able to tell a lot from photos of the inside. Please show good clear in-focus well-lit photos of the movement itself, any numbers on the movement, and any engraving inside the caseback. This will allow people to determine exactly what you have. Then once you know the reference number of the watch, the caliber of the movement, and the approximate production date, you will be able to use google more productively.

Market value is related to desirability to collectors. If someone in a shop truly made you an offer, most likely it was a lowball.

That is a very peculiar case shape, perhaps it is not an Omega case? I would hazard a guess that the movement is a CH27 and it is from the forties. Not a lot more can be found out without seeing the innards.

I believe he's specifically talking about people asking to 'validate' if a watch is real / re-dialed / original / in good shape.

Have the bottom lugs been shortened or is just the angle of the photo?

There are markings that are clearly not visible in the plate covering. Found in google that it might be the service history.

Seeing the inner caseback on your last photo makes me really wonder about the above quote. The 2404 is clearly visible, as are serial numbers, etc. which would have told you 90% of what you need to know 😀

I was just being sarcastic with the comment of the other user which I find off putting. But anyways, thank you for your help. I am not really a collector. I never put thought about the old watches I have in storage before, simply because I never had any use for them and were left for me to keep. Even my dad never wore these watches since he only wear the usual casios and apple. But I guess, i can't just leave these pieces lying around the house then considering the supposed value.
