Unfortunately some zero feedback noob on eBay paid $1899.00 for this counterfeit ref 14900, the most widely faked Constellation known to eBay.

Can you spot why this is one of them?

    Be careful out there.

But it says officially certified, you're not allowed to lie about that. With any luck it's just a money laundering scheme. Hopefully someone didn't lose their hard earned cash on a fake watch.

It looks frighteningly realistic. For me the tells are Ts on a non-lume dial and the absence of chamfers on the lugs. Which latter point I only recently learned from a thread which (I think) you posted.

Doe's it really matter as long as the buyer is happy with his purchase?

As long as the buyer knows they've paid good money for a fake piece of shit and didn't think they were buying a genuine Connie.

    One bid buy it now.

But not to worry, they took it down when I reported it after it sold.

And what if he thinks he has a genuine watch and continues his life in ignorant bliss? Would you be first in the queue to tell him otherwise?

Tricky.... but yes. I think anyone would want to know if they have a fake. I know ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is even more blissful

The buyer will likely learn in an even harsher way of their mistake if/when they go to sell or have it serviced... Better to learn now IMO given the unlikelihood of living in said blissful ignorance permanently.

If this was going to be guaranteed to be kept, un-serviced, by the insured for the remainder of their life, then I sort of agree with Dennis... but that's unlikely unfortunately.

I get what you're saying, it's a dick move to upset the guy just for the sake of "being right", but I think if you could tell him quickly, so he could get his money back, and you could do it in a courteous and grown up way, you'd be doing him a favour.

No one deserves to be stung with a fake that they think is real.

If the buyer were to live his life unaware it's just going to lead to an omegaforums uncle watch post in 2070.;)

It looks fake but what are the signs? I'm looking on Ebay now comparing watches however some more knowledge would be appreciated.
    Thanks

T's at the bottom despite the dial having no lume, no chamfer on the lugs, the fact that the case back has clearly been chrome plated rather than steel, the date wheel is off center. I'm sure there are more but the pictures are so blurry (another red flag) that it's impossible to tell more.

Couldn't some of these "tells" merely be a result of extensive refinishing, or has someone come out/been identified as a counterfeiter for these cases?

EDIT: I just finished looking through the PDF - while I think the stainless steel back is probably actually steel and not chrome plated, the dial looks a dead ringer for the image on the last page.
