VAER C5 Quartz Second Hand Aligment, Am I Expecting To Much?

@Archer Al, in your opinion is it a movement issue or an second hand install issue? From my point of view, if the second hand/watch is in a level position and the alignment is off by 50%, doesn't that indicate installation error?

In the dial up position, laying flat, there's no gravity to expose the backlash issue. That's why I had you do the test with the watch vertical...

So it's both essentially.

Lots of nice words, mostly fluff and bluff I feel.

The things that made me wince........

And the "hand setting phase"

Not a hand setting tool in sight (I like the Rodeo stick though 馃檮).

Kitchen table workshop, by the looks of things...or a staged shot and the watches are made in China. No idea as I've not looked into this brand before, so don't know a lot about who they are or what they claim, other than the bogus information on hand alignment.

I received a response from VAER this afternoon and it was as I expected it would be. It is what it is.

Regarding second hand alignment, variance for hand assembled quartz watches is completely normal. You'll even find second hand alignment to be varied on "luxury" watches like Tag, Omega, and Tissot. This is normal and is due to the play required for proper working of the movement gear train.
In choosing our watch design and our assembly team, this was an aspect that we researched quite a bit, and is a common characteristic of quartz movement watches - though it has absolutely nothing to do with timekeeping precision, which we do guarantee. We actually wrote up an awesome article in our journal specifically about this topic if you're interested in reading more. https://www.vaerwatches.com/blogs/journal/watch-second-hand-not-aligned

A lot of eBay sellers seem to think that if they show watch parts being held in tweezers, it lets people know that they are professional watchmakers.

I checked the second hands of my Citizen Eco Drive Chronograph and found the sub seconds hand has no visible error at all while the stop watch hand shows a very slight variation at different sections of the dial. The stop watch hand sits a bit high from the dial so there no way you can tell at a glance due to shifting angle of sight. You'd have to study it while its perfectly flat in relation to your eye.

The kid just came home for a visit. He has a new Sternglass quartz that lines up very well.
