This Earthroamer showed up in my neighborhood recently and I checked it out online. Built on a Ford F-550 chassis, and it looks like one can be yours for a mere $800k well-equipped, so just liquidate a few vintage Daytonas.

OMG where are you from @Dan S ?
Just for statistic purpose
When I see this type of vehicles during camping, they are always from Germany or Netherlands

Id rather get a unimog camper … more space (well…depending), likely more spares, probably can keep a Daytona or two to beat with on the camp mission and most importantly to time my hot-spring-sessions (because wrinkles), and if they can do the highlands of Iceland then they can do most anything.

But it looks sweet…

Wow. Someone is ready for the apocalypse. This guy not only laughs at your tiny house, he runs over it on the way into camp.

There are a few of those being made where I live with old ex-Australian army unimogs from the 80s and they look absolutely amazing. Lots more ground clearance too.

I'm waiting for the EV version.
EV model will be problematic after the apocalypse (which this vehicle is clearly made for) unless they put solar panels on the roof. Perhaps bio-deisel.
Frankly, I want my last words to be “ooo, what’s that bright light?”

If you’re spending that much for a doomsday vehicle, it ought to be armoured.

You can get a Marauder for roughly the same price…it isn’t road legal but by the time you need it, that won’t matter.

What a crazy coincidence that I just saw one of these kinds of vehicles at a local brewery in central Texas on Sunday. I saw it and asked my wife, "What the f*ck is that thing?" That's not something I see everyday.

I have seen a few of these in the Colorado backcountry. Looks like they can go anywhere.

While I get the attraction to such 'tricked-out' vehicles, I can't get past the thought that they could be so easily disabled by shooting or slashing the tires. Of course that wouldn't likely be of concern in places like Iceland, but could well be in at least some of the - ahem - rugged places that people like to explore.

I don't see this as preparation for the apocalypse, TBH, more like a toy for someone with too much money ... a Sprinter Van upgrade as I suggested in the title. Two couples that are our close friends have transitioned to a Sprinter van lifestyle, and they really seem to love it. It's not crazy for them to spend $100k for a well equipped custom version, which is a lot, but they basically see it as their home for most of the year. I think the OP vehicle would be a super-luxury go-anywhere version of that. The "only" problem is the price.

Clear heaps of around the world camper Van/trucks/whatnot at work. Seen some nice ones.
Usually the light trucks converted to campers are way better than the camper purposely built.

Probably see 10x more motorbikes though. The amount of motorcycle around the world trips are crazy.

I’ve never understood the luxury camper thing, I was of the mind that you rent a cabin or sleep in a tent. But a good friend of mine has one and he uses it constantly with his family and finds it far easier to take vacations with his kids than getting on a plane or staying in hotels.
After seeing the interior of his- the visions of cheap faux-wood paneled Winnebagos was dashed from my mind.
One side perk was when he got Covid, that became his residence for 2 weeks while his family stayed in the house…not too shabby.
