Thank you....I have always enjoyed Art Deco, and appreciate the contribution of Egyptian design to it. It was such a huge movement for so many years we have a tendency to take it for granted in our daily lives even though it surrounds us most everywhere we go in details large and small. Keep an eye open for it....take a quick photo when you encounter it, and post your photos....it might make for a fun thread. The design elements are all over watch case designs from the '20s, '30s and '40s. Happy hunting!

Ha ha ha, we have a number of threads here about art deco, artt nouveau, design and architecture— including with said pictures.
And you’ll’see we’ve enjoyed debating a number of schools.
Look out for them or search them and you’ll see your post fits right in.

As for taking pictures, I did once collect material to post a thread about art deco in my city, but never got around to posting the thread....
Best regards and welcome to the forum.

While neither a Longines, Egyptian inspired or Art Deco, I found this recently and thought it was rather beautiful and too good to not pass on.

Maybe it isn't scaled down...

The 24.99 is a large chronometer caliber with 50H power reserve, so I would
assume so.....

But it's probably in the same famoly.

So the 24.99 is a 24 lignes movement (diameter 54 mm). The OP's watch is about 32 mm diameter (14 - 15 lignes), so you are right!

Special bump of this thread for Sherlock @Fritz, @allwoundup and other lovers of design and history:
The King Tut exhibit is now touring the world, and it is most unbelievable.

The tour is now in London, will then go to Sydney and Tokyo, and yet to be disclosed stops. If you are anywhere near or can afford a flight, it is worth planning a trip to see it.
It’s not just seeing jaw dropping beautiful art that’s over 3300 years old (does that even register?).
It’s also that the outstanding exhibition videos and explanations are very moving. They show an extreme endeavor to protect the dead from the irreparable outcome of death itself, and from oblivion. Religious and political context is erudite but not overwhelming.

And with that, here are a few pictures- the first one is a pair of 1925 earrings showing the influence @Fritz and @allwoundup identified.
The other pictures are mine, from the exhibition.

I saw that exhibit many years ago when it came to Toronto. Its simply astounding. It is worth any effort to go and see.

That is assuming the stuff has aged well since I saw it, its been over thirty years!

For sure they pick perfect pieces for an exhibit like this- and I’m sure those artefacts must be the most cared for in the world.

Saw this show -- remarkable -- and the original tour when I were just a lad. These examples of Art Deco Longines, while not a patch on the royal jewellery of the Pharaohs, are beautiful in their own right. Have added them onto the increasingly long list of vintage/reissued Longines pieces I'd love to own.

Mrs. C (when she was still a Miss) and I saw an exhibit of artifacts from King Tut’s tomb, in Vancouver, B C in 1964. The exhibition was on a lengthy world tour at the time. The Egyptian government was raising funds to help in preserving many archaeological sites there were to be engulfed with the flooding of the Aswan High Dam. Including the Temples of Abu Simbel.

juststuffisell is a website that sold an interesting Longines with similar numerals. It's easy to find if you Google it. This could be a clue to the provenance of the watch. There is a name on the dial.

Here is a picture, hopefully it could lead somewhere

Hello Yves, and welcome to the forum.
It’s a nice piece with squarish numerals and hands. @Radiumpassion noted in another thread that the style was called “cubiste” given the cubical shapes.

I find it beautiful and its numerals indeed echo the ones in the OP piece, showing indeed some stylistic features can be used in several pieces of the same period. It also looks like it has floral patterns on the dial and the side; and if you find the serial number of the movement you could get a more specific dating.

the Egyptian watch nonetheless tells its own very specific, unique and marvelous story, I frankly don’t really mind not knowing if it was a special commission or who owned it.
It is a very vivid testimony about a moment in history.

Back to the Tut stuff. Years ago when i was lucky enough to have the King Tut artifacts display near my home and got to see this stuff, I was amazed to see that the gold burial mask isn’t just a mask, its a full helmet! The silly thing completely engulfs the mummy’s head. I could never understand why, when you see pictures of the mask, they never show the side or back. Its more spectacular from the side than from the front and all that enamel work continues all the way around!
The friggin thing must weigh a ton.

think of all the 30T2RGs Dennison could have cased!

Must be classed as Investment Grade as it’s going up roughly 10% a year 🙄

Yeah but if it’s investment grade you have to be able to sell it at some point 😁
