Please let us know what you find out. Seriously tempted to pull the trigger on this, even though I really shouldn’t spend the funds.

Totally useless. He said "umm let me look at what you're talking about....pause...what's the question?"

"I want to know whether it can be used for best offer purchases because my ebay summary says "get 15% off your best offer" but the conditions say it can't be used for best offer"

"hmm let me read it. Yeah it does say can't be used for best offer. Usually when there is a conflict of information I just go with whatever the legal jargon says"

me: "I imagine this is going to be an issue if it turns out they're not honoring it. I have a screenshot saying "get 15% off your best offer".

him "yeah. I'll pass it on. Thanks" 😕

I saw this too and I don’t want to make a best offer if they won’t honor it but when I look at any particular watch it says “$820 off or 15% - best offer”. Also they’re emailing me a ton of watches and saying “bidding currently at $3150. If you bid now and win you’ll get $315 off” which seems 100% contrary to the fine print. I’m going to call them in a bit to clarify

I got the same email about an auction, dunno how it'll end up working out. But the watch I bought had a 5% discount already applied by the seller, and considering it's a watch I've been eyeing for a few weeks, I figured I might as well take it

Anyone else have any luck applying this coupon to a "Best Offer" or an auction-style with "Buy It Now" price? It seems like it's a glitch in the listings, saying the coupon is valid. I am just scared to get through to the point of checkout and not be able to apply it...

You'll see the option to apply it on checkout, as a tick box.

Meanwhile, I bought another watch off eBay yesterday without even getting the discount.... ::facepalm1::
(it was pretty cheap for what it is though)

Hope this comes back in March. Could have used the $1500.

For those still shopping.. 8% eBay Bucks is currently available, could be targeted (ends 2/25).

If only it were that simple. On eBay because the seller must pay PayPal and ebay fees, he must charge considerably more than a seller outside of ebay. On 10k usd sale, final value fees from ebay = 750, PayPal 290. Add those to the initial price, then add your sales tax (your figure) 1000. Of course it won't work out exactly that way, but it's not as great a deal once all the fees are considered.

Ebay is also now offering 8 percent ebay bucks on another of my accounts. (but never both deals on one account, rest assured)

The deals to be found are often on vintage watches where estate sales are moving watches. Yes, a dealer is unlikely to sell a two-year old Rolex at a reasonable fee but you might find an older Rolex GMT that was +/- $11,000 and now you can knock off $1500 making it a potential good deal. If you ship to Delaware, Oregon, or other states without sales tax you'll recoup even more.

I’m still skeptical of spending that much buying on eBay though...

No offense but point is it’s better to save $1500 than not 😉

@bgrisso good looking out on this!

Though in some cases it may be better to save 100% by not making the purchase at all.

Yes, saving money is better than not saving money, that we can all agree on 😀

I literally missed this deal by a few hours. Made the purchase last night, but forgot to complete the purchase by midnight 🙁.

Well, did anyone actually use the coupon on a 2500 to 10k (or more) watch? And cube, you are right. If you were going to buy the watch anyway, it is a better deal to save 1500. Absolutely. I'm just a little bitter after buying on ebay since 1998 without sales tax. It's a tough pill to swallow.

I bought a watch. Even with tax it came out to a pretty good deal for what it is.

I’m still skeptical of spending that much buying on eBay though...

I've gotten some awesome watches (some for a stellar deal) off of eBay over the years, both before and after the tax implementation - glad to hear I've got less competition 😁

While he was still here, Dennis put it best - eBay is the absolute fairest marketplace. It rewards a sharp eye and decisive action just as much as it punishes ignorance and compulsivity.

I've only ever bought a watch on eBay once but the member was also part of WUS, so it wasn't really a gamble. Short of another 10-15% discount I won't bother with the platform as tax destroys any incentive to purchase through there.

Got an invoice for purchase today and was charged tax on $9 for shipping. WTH?

Ebay started charging their fees on shipping some time ago to keep unscrupulous sellers from selling, say a watch roll for ten cents and 25 bucks shipping. That practice went on for many years and cost ebay quite a lot, I should think. Taxing shipping is probably be done for the same reason.
That actually makes perfect sense. I always wondered why items are $5 and their associated shipping is 50.
