I've seen it both ways. Which do you prefer? How 'bout Railie or Raily? Doesn't quite work with the Seamaster, huh?
I don't understand what you mean, can you explain? I was being quite clear, who really cares about whether the abbreviated name of a thing is spelled this way or that way?
And I was trying to be diplomatic about answering a question that I see often in posts, that I find puzzling. Because in the end, who really cares about any of it? Whether I should put on a brown strap or black. Whether I should trade this watch for that. Whether this box is correct for this year or not. This is just diversion for a life that ends and we become worm food in the end. So while you may not care about this benign little tid-bit, it amused me, and I posted it.
How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? Or to put it in terms more in keeping with this thread, how many angels can dance on the dot of a DON bezel? Feel free to grab a loupe, magnifying glass or electron microscope to check.
OK, getting back to the serious matter at hand. Speedmaster is a proper noun, and since there is no rule about how to abbreviate it, either "Speedy" or "Speedie" would be correct based on the convention of the group creating or using the abbreviation; or any other form could be used provided it is defined by the author or speaker on each occasion it is used. That said, the adjective describing the act of moving quickly is "speedy", not "speedie". Therefore, my contention is that since there are established rules for the use of the word "speedy", it make more sense to use "Speedy" rather than "Speedie" as the abbreviation for Speedmaster, merely because the exemplar "speedy" makes it easier to use "Speedy" in all forms of discussion. However, if in doubt as to my opinion, please refer to my first post in this thread.
