In my (very) un-expert opinion it's a redial. Logo doesn't look quite right, not seen those subdial markers before or the number style around the edge of the face. As you said the hands seem unoriginal, and it's hard to tell but the sub-dial hands seem different between the dials.

Found some more pics here: https://picasaweb.google.com/114151355279491057979/UniversalGeneveTripleDateMoonphase02 but can't tell if the crown is marked or not.

Anyway someone who knows better will be in here soon, I just wanted to give it a shot!

Last question on this - where would you expect to find the serial number on a c.60/70s polerouter sub? Or do they even come with serial numbers similar to Rolex etc?

    Kind regards

A SS Tri-Compax was just listed on eBay which looks interesting. Serial number dates it to about 1944-45. The seller appears to believe the dial is original but voluntarily flags the fact that it is missing the word "SWISS." Anyone have any thoughts?

A nicely done and likely older redial. Hour hand is incorrect as well.

Not sure! I thought I saw example of both with and without the marking. Admittedly, I am new to UGs and watch collecting in general.

That is OK actually. Common on many if not all Tri-Compaxes

I think it's legit. I was in the bidding until late. That dial is extremely rare with the second, inner ring, and the rest of the piece is minty.

Whoever ended up buying it is going to be pretty upset when they hear from their watchmaker that those pushers are unobtainable. The case tubes are oversized too, so even if you were willing to sacrifice originality for practicality and use an off-the-shelf replacement, it ain't gonna fit!

I've got a parts watch in the cabinet. :taunt:

I'm sure it's legit. I just think it's not a very good value. Unless you've got a parts watch in the cabinet.

Terrible value, they'll have to buy a second watch to finish it. I dunno what you'd have to pay someone to custom manufacture replacement pushers--and even then, they'd want an example to work from or perfect measurements.

I just hope they don't cut down/replace the existing tubes to make a standard sized pusher fit.

Sorry new hear so this may be a crazy question, but was the 'crazy talk' because that was high or a good deal? (for the record I'm thinking high haha)

    Thanks in advance.

High for a redial with an incorrect hand that is nearly impossible to source.

The watch was last serviced in 1996, so not only was it not the safe dweller that the seller said it was, but it's also going to need an expensive servicing before it can have any real wrist time.
