Howdy all, I am fairly new to the world of watches, but I love the esthetic of UG. I came across a UG Compur with the case stampings visible on the backside, rather than on the inside. Is that normal from the early 40s? Also, I am trying to get a better idea of how to assess dials and other reconditionings. I did not spot anything odd on the watch, other than the stamps. Do you all see anything on this example that is out of the ordinary?
The SWISS MADE looks a little funny, but overall I'm not seeing any obvious problems. It is shown in the Sala "yellow pages" on page 184. Others will know better. Based on the movement photo, I'm guessing it's relatively small, 33-34mm. If so, there will be roughly a factor of two difference in value between this and a jumbo reference.
beautiful watch and an example of a completely legit "swiss made" chrono dial IMO, as has been argued/discussed in other threads. Sometimes the radius on the swiss made curve will track the same radius as the dial edge, and sometimes it will pull a bit tighter, I see both, not sure why..... you will see case stamping both inside and outside caseback with UG, impossible to make broad generalizations, I believe you can even see variations within the same case reference, different batches perhaps, best to always look at specific and narrow examples I have not studied this ref before but I'm not see anything so far that would cause alarm bells, other than what I assume is a smaller case size and probably very high asking price
