I have a chance to buy a Universal Geneve Compax. Looks in good shape. Need some opinions. I realize the band is not original, kinda goofy fit..Price is mid 20k. Pics included.

Also no serial numbers on the outside of the watch.

Thanks in advance..

See pics

What does the seller claim as the ref and SN? I almost started but I’m not going to do your homework for you. Lots wrong with this watch and the price!!!!!!!!😱 That bracelet is indeed horrible. Good on you for coming to OF though. RUN!

Ive been doing alot of research on the watch. Best I can tell its a REF 22430 but im unable to open the watch with out buying it. The seller is unable to open and wont... The dial looks clean {iam in untrained eye} the Rodium dots and watch hands look original. Of the pictures ive seen on the internet looks original. the case is 45.78MM plus or minus the watch with the band weighs in at 79.7g.. The band is a mid 50's Speidel, lizard 10k gold filled. thats about the extent of what i know.

I am to understand that these large case Universal Geneve Compax are rare the dial is clean. but what makes me unsure if its been touched, the Rodium dots. As for the price. All things being equal and the watch is untouched and original whats a fair value.

Watch is now priced beyond what I can afford. High 29k USD. Frustrating. I want a nice watch I can enjoy and say. Man that's something special. Unfortunately dont posses that special money.. Maybe I avoided a land mine. Thanks guys.

Not sure what you mean about "special," but the price is silly.

For grins. Is this thing real? Looks it. But the seller can't get the case open and refuses to force it.

I do own a few nice watches. My Oakley Time Tank Red. Lol

I'm a bit confused by the comments, that's not just a UG Compax, that's a "UniversalOne", massive 46mm case, very rare, very desirable. The case ref and serial are usually on the inside, and yes, this looks like a 22430. It looks to be in excellent condition and I would expect it to be priced in the 20-30K range. (With the increased interest in UG I wouldn't be surprised by an even higher asking price).
There's not many of these around, so probably not a lot of examples to track in terms of sold prices, I expect it's an extremely small market of serious buyers.
If I was a serious buyer (I am not) I would need to see inside the watch, spending that kind of money.

Sold for 36k usd. Prolly 10 examples on the planet.
Not surprised at all. Maybe it will get cleaned up and offered at significantly higher price in a bit.

Interesting, a watch for a serious collection, but too big to wear. I can see now by the subdial positions that it's massive.

See above….. Now you made me, actually B Grisso, do your homework. Dial looks right but the ref refers to the case .. 22531? Regardless … for a seller to display this obstinacy … not good. Is UG entering another crazy phase? I should cash out but I love em too much.

You must be the author of that reference book, no title mentioned. Bravo to you. I took a guess based on Dial. That it was a 22430. BTW I didn't make you do anything. Thanks for the help.

😀 No that would be Sr Sala. This watch is not shown in the Compax section, rather in military archives p380. Thanks for an informative treasure hunt. If you are serious about UG, you need this book.
