·I’m new to this site and so this is my first post. I’m actually a novice when it comes to watches but I have a genuine interest. Luckily, I’ve been getting some good advice from a watch collector from the NAWCC site. He referred me to this site because of all the Universal Geneve experts/collectors.
I recently came across this Universal Geneve watch and am struggling with where to go with it. It is a little out of my league ($’s) as a collector so I’m trying to find the best course of action.
It seems I probably need to try to grade it. I took the watch to my local watchmaker because it isn’t running. He said it doesn’t look to have any mechanical problems, that it is just “gummed up” from oil after being in storage for so long. He suggested a good cleaning.
I bought it third party so I don’t have any history/box/papers on the watch. I thought it was just a neat looking chronograph.
I understand Christie’s is a good place to sell due to their high exposure and watch sales history. I also though about putting it up with one of the online auction sites but I’m not sure about how to handle the $’s (escrow) or shipping. I understand with some online sales sites, the site will not help in the escrow process due to the fact I’m a new unknown seller.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
