I have expanded the section on the UG Big Eye to now include details on case, dial, hands, movement and crown https://alphahands.com/vintage-watch-research/universal-geneve-884100-02-big-eye/ If anyone has information to add or suggestions on other details to include, please let me know! All known pieces are listed in the serial number project section. Stay healthy everyone -
Based on this image from the UG archives, it seems that there was a Big Eye reference before the 884100. As far as I'm aware, the watches in these records (the 'résumé du production') were all actually in production but if it were, it seems surprising that one has not come to market. Does anyone know what 'SOC' might be an abbreviation for, as that might answer the question? 22901 is not included in the list of 'old references' that changed on 31 Dec 1964 and neither is the 884100 in the list of 'new references', which suggests that the 22901 was not in production on that date. Apologies for the quality of the image; my focus was elsewhere at the time.
The crown looks thinner than normal and the hour and minute hands are different than normal (which normally have very thin lume window)
Nice work, thanks! Concerning the movement, I have seen at least 3-4 examples with a cal 84 inside (instead of 125).
