Putting myself out there, please your advice about this Speedmaster ST145.022 that is being advertised as a 3590.50 here in Japan. I know roughly nothing about these watches but the lume on the hands and the dial seems to be tritium in identical no-so-great and old condition and the dial has the long r logo that I associate with earlier models. There are no movement shots but it’s described as having a 861.

The logo is from the 1980s; the lack of a serial number on the lug, TACHYMETRE with no È, and dot next to 70 makes me think this is an early 1980s 145.022, too early to be a 3590.50. I can’t figure out what the bracelet is. It’s being offered at about US$2700, fully serviced. I’m wondering what I’m overlooking to think this is a fairly attractive buy. Where have I gone wrong (in my life)?

Hi!

Having handled dozens of 80s Speedmasters in search of my birthyear watch, I am pretty sure we’re looking at an early 80s piece indeed. My gut feel says ‘82 or ‘83 145.022 CRS based on the slightly greenish dial lume and the way the bezel edge has worn. It’s almost certainly not a 3590.50, even though I’d need a case profile picture to be 100% sure.

At 2,7k USD including the 1171/1 bracelet, it appears to be very attractively priced to me…

For reference; my ‘81 on the left and an ‘83 on the right. The ‘83 comes on an 1171/1 bracelet which I believe is on this watch too, and resembles the patina most as well.

If you’re in the market for a Speedy; this could be a very good buy. Worth asking a movement shot, at least.
