Unfortunate repair situation

I suppose I wasn't aware of the huge cost of repair prior to purchase. On me for not doing the research. If I had known, I may not have made the purchase in the first place.

I assume this is why, just like on this occasion, there are several tales of Omega replacing ceramic cases gratis or offering discounts as although it seems to be a rare occurrence, no one wants negatives reviews of the weaknesses of their state of the art watch cases becoming mainstream, making people question whether they should spend 12k on said wqtch.

If you can turn an apoplectically pissed off customer into one that’s only mildly miffed by way of a discount, chances are most won’t be bothered enough to take to the internet to voice their rage and raise the profile of the uncommon but nonetheless real weaknesses of ceramic cases
Exactly my thought.

It's no secret that these cases can chip and shatter

Maybe they should come up with some sort of a *BIOceramic** version, in cooperation with Swatch. 😁

I don't tend to baby my watches. If I ever get a ceramic case, guess I'll go with a Rado (never had a Rado before, and like their history with case/material innovations).

Will the biological components allow it to regrow severed lugs?

Just like plastic crystals in the early 20th century, it will make it “unbreakable”.

Yup looks like a new case is required no matter what. You need to bite the bullet.

Oh… now that I see the pic I’m just confused. That case would have already needed replacing, no?—even without Swatch ‘making it worse’? What else could they have done besides replacing the entire case?

I'm guessing they offered a bigger discount because now the damage looks even worse than before, in case the OP decided to refuse service.

Either that or the damaged it so badly that a spring bar wont even stay in securely anymore, basically forcing the OP to service it. But instead of saying that, they offer an incentive instead.

Agreed with everyone else though, $3k is a good deal, I'd take it.
When I got my GSOTM, I also didnt realize the cost of repairs until after the purchase. Being my first 5 figure watch purchase, I promptly got it insured lol. 5 years later now and luckily no incidents.

I had an Apollo 8 DSOTM that I sold soon after purchasing it. It's a stunning watch but the stories about cracked ceramic freaked me out and I didn't enjoy wearing it. It's nice drinking out of fine crystal glasses on occasion but not for everyday, unless you're okay with breakage.

The concept of ceramic cases in a deep diving watch seems a bit nonsensical. Seems like there's plenty of opportunities to smack a watch against something hard while getting in and out of a boat.

Sorry about your case and thanks for sharing your story. Yours is the first photos I have actually seen as opposed to just heard stories. I was wondering if the stories were hyped up. Apparently not.

If it helps, think of your watch like a trip to the vet after your dog ate something it wasn't supposed to. You'd be getting away cheap for $3k. 😁
