Under-appreciated Gruen!

Well, I appreciate it at least. While sulking around the house and hiding from the kids, I stumbled across a watch I haven’t worn for quite a while. I remembered I had a spare blue-ish strap and thought I’d give it a spin. It’s a great piece, well balanced and the right size. If I’m not mistaken, the Chrono function was originally designed to aid in the proper cooking of chicken.

Indeed, its full title was the "Gruen Poultry Precision," but it was too long to print on the dial. Most afficiandos just refer to it as the "Chicken Chrono." I have a Le Jour designed along the same lines, but for soft-boiled eggs.

And with those scales on the outer dial, you can also measure how fast the chicken is moving and the distance of a thunderstorm from your chicken.

The geniuses at Gruen thought of everything. Amazing.

Very nice proportions indeed, what movement does it have. Landeron 248?

Very recently picked up an Ocean Chief, Gruen seems to be pretty under appreciated generally speaking. Never seen one of these, but very cool, Ref?

Your dial may be the rare misprint of the "Ocean Chef" designed for timing the cooking or frying of fish.

Wore my Gruen last Thursday and have been leaving it out on my dresser ever since.

It's also not often worn so I've been keeping it wound to see how it performs just lying there. Hasn't really budged off the set time. Oh, I'm sure it's off some few seconds, but it's meeting my definition of a real "travel watch" which are any of mine which will keep time to within a minute over seven days time. Never really took Gruen seriously.

But a Gruen chicken timer! That's just ... wow!

Bet it would time the interval between the instant our chickens leave the chicken run gate upon being let out into the backyard to when they arrive at the cat food bowls and poke their heads in. Hens that break in to flight are disqualified as cheaters.

Completely agree that Gruen is completely under appreciated at the moment. Just picked up a nice Ocean Chief on eBay 😉 - Some great deals to be had; I especially think that the 510 RSS divers are really undervalued.
