Plus perhaps a block booking price? Snag on my side is that I don't have 10 items I want to sell -- not even sweat-stained old straps I suppose '60s Moulton bicycle parts will not be in demand in the hall?
Gents, might want to edit out those hotel names real quick and keep those details private. Cars and hotel rooms get broken into around watch fairs these days. Several people’s cars got broken into at one of the big French watch fairs a year and a half ago.
Alright peeps - I've spoken to the organiser and the deal is... A middle-of-the-room stall is £55, and that includes 2x entry tickets. They are open to stall holders from 8am and the general public gets in at 9am for £5 a pop, or if they want to pay £10 they can get in from 8am. Hotel-wise, there's a place I've stayed before that's pretty decent and is only 5 miles away, but will be £100-120 a night. Another joint a few miles further away looks promising at £65-75 a night. I'll ping the WhatsApp group more details but if anyone else is up for a GTG in the Coventry area on Saturday night (9th March) even if you don't want to be part of the stand at the clock fair, let me know by PM
Is the fair open on the Saturday, Sunday or both? I'm interested in the fair and the GTG but I don't think I'm in your whatsapp group, so I'll PM you.
The fair is on Sunday morning, but @neilfrancis suggested a GTG on Saturday evening somewhere nearby … come to either or both
An update We had a stall at the watch fair, and it was a great social get together but a less successful commercial enterprise. Most of the punters were looking for nothing but a bargain, and our stall had nothing but high-quality watches, basically. A few sales were made, of cheaper stuff. None of the good stuff was sold - though if we kept going back, with the same stock, we might end up selling it, but I'm not too fussed about doing that. I'll keep going to the fair as an attendee but I don't think I'll bother being an exhibitor …
Well I've been called some fakkin things in my time.... but "riff raff"! ...... and to think I was going to bring this little gem!
My favourite punter of today was this old fella who shambled past several times. He came up to me, gestured to a case of maybe 30 watches and said "how much are the watches?" - er, which watch particularly? "any of them - how much are they?" - well, it depends which one... some are a few £hundred, some a couple of £thousand. "Oh, that's too expensive" - shuffles off. Most of the interest and action came from other dealers before 9am, when the general public came in
Was a privilege and a pleasure to meet the guys I met at this event, particularly Ewan, Simon and James. I ended up with a nice sparkle dial SM and a large batch of Omega bits. Good fun all in all.
Here's an idea for the next time - afternoon meet up in a country hotel; we get lots of tables to sit at and dish out our stuff for looking at/ sale /swap. Eventually move into drinks then dinner; stay in hotel, have breakfast in the morning, go home. If we could get 20-30 collectors instead of tyre kickers, how about it?
