Auction description: 'A Stainless Steel Chronograph Wristwatch, signed Omega, model: Speedmaster Professional, 1968, (calibre 321) lever movement signed and numbered 26076390, dust cover, black dial with luminous baton markers, three dials for seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour registers, buttons in the band to operate chronograph, tachymeter bezel, screw back with Speedmaster monogram and numbered inside 145012-67, Omega stainless steel bracelet with a deployant clasp stamped 1039 68/2, 42mm wide 13.06.16, Case with surface scratches, case with small dents, later winding crown, bezel with minor dents and small scratches, plexi glass with scratches, bracelet with slight stretching to the links, small dents and surface scratches, dial is clean, hands with luminous faded, luminous baton markers are discoloured and now with a good patina, movement is clean, balance is swinging slowly for a short period and then stops, mainspring is slipping when winding the movement, start/stop chronograph button is working, but the flyback button is not working and is not returning the chronograph hand back to 12 o'clock position' Sold for I 6,900 GBP (i may be off by 100 here, from memory it may have been 6.8). Buyers premium was a further 23% on top. Negatives - Plain to see. Positives - Great Patina and I would argue a stellar bezel once the gunk clears off. Will leave others to just the final price. Seems somewhat rich no? The service alone to fix this must be a further 1K GBP. Judging by this the Speedy market is far from decreasing.
Wow that'll be stunning after a good clean up and service, the case looks amazing and what a dial. Would love to see the "after" pictures.
Once all of that crud is removed I'll bet it is a well-above above-average specimen. If there were no buyer's premium it wouldn't be too terribly high.
Not one of the majors. Just a rather small auction based in the UK. They only had 2 watches up. This was one. The other 200 items were all vintage assortments. I doubt they will see another again.
Hi Looks like most of the previous owner is still attached to it.... This unfortunately means the Case may well have corrosion issues....take a closer look at the inner rear seal rim just to the right of the movement serial. I suspect once that area is properly cleaned up the true damage will all be revealed to the new owner who just dropped £7k GBP on it ! Best - Neil
The number of times I see it listed at around that. Either just lazy or dumb with the listing. Or deliberate to entice the punters to watch and hope for itchy fingers
Could end up being a really great looking piece after the requisite TLC, but yeah, this would prove out the theory that while mediocre examples are stalling out, great examples / barn finds like this still have plennnnty of interest from well-informed buyers at premium price points.
Yes quite nice but was left out in bidding slip stream. Just a wee bit pricey however could be worth the gamble and turn out a gem. Tango dial but in this case looks like it could be genuine.
This one ended at £ 6.400 plus 20-23% premium few days ago. It had both inner and outer box Estimate was 6-700
