Hi folks

I ran across this Universal Geneve Uni-Compax and I'm thinking to bring it home. The guy is one of mine long term watch buddies so I got to try the watch over the weekend before deciding on a purchase. I'm not an expert on these so I appreciate if you have any comments.

Overall I think it looks well preserved and attractive. The case looks unpolished and sharp. The glas is not signed and has some dirt in the edge area. The crown is not signed. The lume on the hands looks different than the dial lume so assume it was relumed at some point during it's 74 years life. Movement looks nice and clean and all functions are working perfect.
All comments are welcome.

Thanks, Kapka

Nice watch, I agree on a historical hand relume and I think the crown is a replacement too... Don't think the crowns were signed on these but it looks odd.

Saying that I'm not sure the crown on mine is right either so maybe it just looks different to what I'm used to!

Very attractive watch though - personally I'm not a fan of that green lume but the dial is lovely.

My 2cents anyway - sure some more knowledgeable will blow that apart!

I am having some doubts about the originality of the dial.
The two "1" at 11 don't seem aligned (might be due to crystal distortion on the picture), and the "7" seems oddly shaped compared to other UG "7" I have seen. Also not sure whether that UG logo belongs on that dial.

I don't have any experience with these other then reading here on OF, but I agree with the points DSOTM raised, plus the bottoms of the '1' and '2' in '12' slope in opposite directions. And the top circles in the '8's on the tachy scale are filled in. I know the printing on these dials is often a little rough looking even when legitimate, though.

Thank you buddy. I think I would definitely relume the hands to match the dial. That would would improve the general a lot i i think.

Dial is original, with radium indexes.
Glasses were never signed during 40s, so don't care about it.
Crown is not original, and hands were surely relumed in a second time. Case is in nice conditions, overall a very honest and attractive timepiece, IMHO.

Alright, so far I have two guys who are doubtful about the dial and two who think it is original 😀.

Not easy to decide here. Anyone else who would like to help?

The guy who sells the watch is 77 years old and definitely not a"redial" guy nor a dealer. So that limits the redial options but he doesn't know the full history of the watch

From Sala. Two guys with UG collections btw. @vujen is dead on. There are dial variations off this standard, its UG after all, but OP watch is fine.

Many thanks Larry! I appreciate the photo as well. I have a pretty good gut feeling about this one but it's always nice to get confirmation 😀.

I will pull the trigger on this little beauty. Only price details left to agree on but I think I have pretty good picture.

Many thanks again!

With a slightly more yellow lume on the hands this watch will be a true beauty!

With a watch of this age I don't think you can get too hung up on crystals and crowns so it's all good 😀

Looks nice and legit to me, with some obvious minor flaws (re-lumed hands, scratches on dial).

I’m not going to develop eye strain ID ing the reference for you but it looks like a legit and desirable piece. You will need to secure better pics. Patina is nice.

Thanks a lot. I'll try to get better photos.

A few more to challenge the eyesight.

Ref # is right there on the paperwork. Although chrome plated, this is a lovely watch. If you can grab it for a good price, this is a nice daily wearer.

What would you consider a reasonable price nowadays for this watch? So it isnt steel (just the caseback)?

Edit: just saw that to be steel it would have to start with a 2.
