This dial looks NOS, great redial ? Let's hear what the experts think ? If it is a redial, it is one of the best I have ever seen ! With the popularity of UG and the increasing value, people with ulterior motives will keep creating these anomalies like this to try to deceive ? I woud like to call it original, but I have some doubt as well now ! It would look amazing on a steel Tri-compax !

    It is a redial ...

There are a number of signs. Tails on six's and nines is missing on date, minute and second registers. Second register is slightly off centre seconds register as well as the missing " - " between tri-compax ... I expect font and print to be a little off as it usually is on re dials. Nice try though !

Here is another which may have come out of the same redial factory ...

I think you may be wrong, so your telling me this is also a redial ? I dont see any tails in the registers on the 6 and 9 ? The thing I dont like is the missing dash in the Tri-compax ? Everything else looks really good to me ! How if it is a redial then how, did they get the lume so perfect and aged looking ? I think it maybe replacement dial ? I added two pictures of UG Tri-compax dials I think are original for comparison ? I see the 31 day in red and black. Can the experts tell me can Tri-compax dials have the 31 day in black and be original finish ?

The difference between the "6"s and "9"s on your last example and the "6"s and "9"s on the two previous ones is notorious

Rolokr, look at the sixes and nines in the three dials you posted together, and compare to the one you posted originally and the one in Diabolik's post and you will see the difference that Diabolik points out. It's quite clear - he's even done you the kindness of circling the digits. You actually validated his observation by posting the three clearly original dials.

The ones he has circled have no tails, the original ones don't have pigtails either ? Am I really missing this concept ? I was looking at the bottom insde of the 6 and 9 and not the top of the curl. I see what Diabolik is saying, not sure what to do with the dial now, all mine are original ! What a waste of time and money ! I guess Im the sucker ! I was fooled by this dial before ! Great now I have two ! Time to put my original spares on ! Learned my lesson, not sure what Im going to do with my impostors, fabulous redials though !

The UG redials can indeed be very good, like many IWC redials. Redialers appear to have had something close to the factory cliches for both manufactures.

No, you are not a sucker. Very easy to miss small details and get carried away.

I was sent a basket case 481 tri compax movement in parts recently. Buyer paid around $1000 on eBay for it. He thought he got a bargain. On inspecting what he had, it is incomplete, some parts are DOA due to corrosion/ un serviceable, and has a lot of parts from other movements. Not worth doing anything with it unless parts can be sourced at a reasonable price which seems pretty much impossible. A quick tally up, costed required parts at over $1k ! He would have been better of purchasing a working example.

Best to carry out a thorough inspection before diving in. If something stands out then look deeper ... The old saying "if it sounds too good to true it usually is" should be applied in such cases.

On the OP dial, I also find the 29 and 31 a little too low on the date subdial.

    And another ...

Reason I think it is the same shop is the missing " - " between tri and compax and seconds register skewed/off center in the same angle (7-8 to 1-2).

    DSCN0490.JPG

Lume is perfect. Looks aged and follows contour of numbers and dots perfectly. Very difficult to get right. Not a hand-job but probably done with a cliche'. Someone has an old dial printer!

Got to give it to whoever rolls these ones out. It is a very good job. With a few minor corrections and a supply of old ink, it would be difficult to distinguish from originals.
