[QUOTE="Syrte, post: 908982,
So I’m sorry, but with all of the money now flooding the world of vintage watches, especially issued, I see no reason to trust documents found randomly on line, that’s not identifiably sourced to a specific archive or historian or to a credible research predating the vintage price bubble.

Well, I have potentially some interesting news on that front. It turns out P.V.H. Weems, who invented these watches, was born in Tennessee and the state Library and Archives holds his papers. Since it’s only about 3 hours away, I may take a weekend trip down there and see if there are any papers related to the original purchase. As I understand it, he worked for Longines at the time.

I don’t think there is any way these would have been issued to U.S. pilots without some kind of lobbying effort on his part. Hopefully, there might be a record.[/QUOTE]

Now after thinking about it more, I feel it is likely the is more accurate information elsewhere than articles I found. Hope you find us more information.

Congratulations!!! I have never seen one of those!!

Thank you! I only know of ~a dozen correct examples. A correct locking crown is arriving today! So once I find a bonklip to put it on, I’ll be in business.

And the crown has arrived. It’s a shame, I like the Wittnauer dial.

Rumar89, what did you pay for yours? I don't see that ebay sale. I see the other one (#1075) that went for $305.

There's one that's on ebay now that is complete and in better condition (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Longines-W...057106?hash=item3b08768b52:g:36QAAOSwHM1an1WS). I'd like to make an offer, but I'm not sure what a fair offer is. Thoughts? It looks like the crystal may have been replaced at some point, but everything looks like it checks out.

I got mine for what (IMHO) was a pretty good price because the listing had it mislabeled as a women’s watch. My original purchase price was $750. All in, with the locking crown, I’m $925 out of pocket. I read on MWR of one selling for £1000 (~$1300 USD). That’s probably about right, somewhere in the $1250-1500 range.
