Two Seamaster 30s

Hello All, I accidentally...

I found these two Omega Seamaster 30s (cal.286 / ref 153.007) from an auction in Finland and against my better judgement (and also having already exceeded my watch budget for the summer) ended up getting them anyways in a 'needs service' condition. Neither of them has Omega logo on the crown.

One on the right with dial with patina on it looks like a piece of modern art to me. What could possibly cause the dial to age like that? Has someone maybe tried to clean it up at some point but stopped halfway through? This dial made me get the pair...

I am guessing the one with the black dial is some sort of re-dial? Please see the closeups: the numbers etc. on the dial really don't look very sharp at all to me. Also I couldn't find anything similar via web search or from Seamaster special dials thread. I opened the caseback to see whats inside: ref. 153.007 -63 inscription inside caseback and cal. 286 (with serial 20141273; making it 1963 I believe).

When I get back home I'm planning to get the one with patinated dial serviced. I am kindly asking for any insights/observations regarding these watches. Happy to provide more photos.

I think you are correct in your assessment of both watches. The white dial looks original to me, but someone made a horrible attempt to clean the dial. I don't think that is fixable, short of a full redial.

The black dial is most certainly an attempt to mimic a military style from the 1950's.

Hope this helps,

Thank You for the feedback! 👍 🙏 I swapped a new wristband to SM30 with a white dial and I am quite liking it. I suppose I'll keep the other for spares.

Or I'll get a completely custom dial made for the SM30 /w black dial - the kind of that is obviously custom and doesn't even necessarily have Omega on it (there appears to be some people at least in Etsy offering custom/semi-custom engraved dials). Does anyone happen to know SM30 dial outer/inner diameter and/or have experience with fitting a custom dial? I've occasionally wanted to try something like this, but never seemed to have a right watch around that should/could be 'sacrificed' for that kind of experiment.

I like this one…

Inspired me to have another shot of black coffee.

After a few sips… proving that it’s black.

It's a conversation-starter for sure. Interesting look, I can see the appeal.

For comparison. My 1963 135.007-62 - my first vintage watch purchase, made right here on OF. The 286 is a terrific movement. Second hand is a tad pitted but the linen dial gets me every time.
