I have two Gruens I would like help with aging and approximate value. The first one is a Precision 17 jewel manual wind with a Cal R415 movement and 10 KRGP bezel, stainless steel back. The band is a Forstner Komfit 1/20-12kt gf.

The second is a Precision 17 Jewel Autowind with a Cal 730 CA movement. The bezel is Plaque G 10 with stainless steel back.

In their present condition (one shows signs of rust on the dial, the other with a broken crystal, both with badly worn gold plated cases), well, you can guess what they might be worth. Not very much. As to dating them? I don’t know of a serial number/date list for Gruen, but this doesn’t matter because there doesn’t appear to be a serial number on either of them. I’d estimate mid 1950s for the manual winder, and mid 60s for the automatic. Probably not the news you wanted.

I knew the prices probably wouldn't be great, just more curious of the age. I paid $9 for both and both work very well and hold time well. There is a sight with some experimental tools but only for the more popular curvex models and movements of those calibers.

It is widely reported that all Gruen records were lost in a fire. I have no idea if this is true or apocryphal. I agree with @Canuck's comments about the value and approximate ages. Gruen did make a few models that are more desirable, but these are pretty basic pieces.
