TUDOR SUBMARINER 7928
Debuting just a year after the iconic Rolex Submariner in 1954, the Tudor Submariner stands tall as one of the most iconic and sought-after vintage dive watches of all time. Merging Rolex's practical and robust designs with Rolex externals and a third-party movement, Tudor met the need for a high-quality tool watch for the everyday man, and the Submariner stands tall as perhaps their most iconic offering of all time.
Rounding off the first generation of Tudor Submariners, we have what is often considered to be the most iconic and sought-after vintage Submariner reference, the ref. 7928, which was released in 1959. Featuring a thick 39mm stainless steel case (39mm instead of the previous 37mm) and a discounted price tag, the ref. 7928 became an incredibly popular watch. With Rolex quality parts throughout its construction, it was a savvy choice for collectors and anyone that needed a dive watch to last a lifetime without spending the kind of money a Rolex commanded.
Having gone through several iterations, the ref. 7928 introduced crown guards and a more modern case profile than that used on the older variants. Offered here, I have a completely original example with a stunning black gilt dial complete with a chapter ring along its periphery and creamy lume on its hour markers and hands. It doesn't stop there, however, as this example also features a Rolex-signed caseback and crown.
Powered by the Rolex-customised Fleurier cal. 350 known as the Rolex cal. 390, the Tudor ref. 7928 combines the very best of vintage watch collecting into one attractive package. With its distinctive charm and immaculately preserved condition, this Tudor Submariner ref. 7928 stands as one of the finest examples offered on the market today. Fitted with the black "long 5" aluminum bezel insert to match its black dial, this monochromatic beauty will undoubtedly serve as a worthwhile addition to any collection.
CONDITION REPORT
This Tudor Submariner 7928 is in excellent condition. It has a very sharp and thick case with pronounced bevels and angular, squared off crown gurads. The dial is in excellent condition and the luminous material on the hour markers matches the hands. It is in full working order and comes on a later 62510H jubilee bracelet.
