Some lovely Tudor subs in this thread. Here's mine. My guess is that it lived a hard life being used exactly as intended until the balance staff broke and it got chucked in a box. 7021/0 stamped IV 68 inside the caseback.

Anyone care to jot down a few notes about these?

Reference numbers? Background on why they're rare? Lineage?

You all know I love pics, so keep them coming, I'm just growing curious to know a bit more about these before I buy one.

FIFY. The more you learn, the more you want. The principal OF hazard. 😜

Here is mine bought new on the 22nd December 1975.....

What’s the relevance of Parallel Lines in the background?

None. Just happens to be on the shelf. Equally good listen though in my opinion 😀

Great looking watches but that nickname...

What, you think it unfairly victimises the Tudor?😉::rimshot::

A vintage Tudor 7016/0 Submariner was the first vintage watch I ever purchased (albeit a fairly poor example...whoops!), and the love for these Subs has only grown stronger over the years. Currently have three in my stable:

(Left) The Snowflake's Cousin, a 76100 Lollipop Sub, and (Right) an early "Swiss Only" 7016/0 Snowflake

And one of my favorite finds from this past year, a 7021/0 Blue Snowflake that's sharp as a razor.

(The hand is being matched and I just received word that it should be home soon, so I'll follow up with pictures)

I don't think I'd quite appreciated the diversity of models in this line-up.

The Tudor Sub evolved over a period of 30 years essentially, with much larger design leaps than its brother, the Rolex Sub. While the differentiating factors in the evolution of the Rolex Subs are an extra line of text or slightly tweaked crown guards, Tudor radically changed the logo (from a rose to a shield), handsets, and dial designs over the years.

Snowflakes, in particular, are bifurcated between the original ETA movement in the 7016/0 (no date) and 7021/0 (date with alternating "roulette" colors), and the improved 9401/0 (no date) and 9411/0 (date with no roulette scheme). The only real differences were an updated ETA movement in the second generation, as well as slightly better quality control with the dials. Most Tudors were actually used as the workhorses they were meant to be, and much of the early 7016/7021's suffered from "dial rot" that causes a bubbling texture and degradation of the text / lume. When they're good, however, they're great.

That was a crash course off the top of my head - plenty of additional info all over the internet. Hodinkee also did a really cool "Inside The Archives" video a couple years ago that walked through some of the above: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/inside-the-archives-of-the-tudor-watch-company

My collection of RCN Tudors, including 4 Snowflakes (1 x 7021, 1 x 84110, 2 x 94010).

Also, a Spare 1979 94110 snowflake. Gorgeous Matt Blue, but no military provenance.

Cheers,
Buster

Wearing my 9411/0 today with its cyclops-less tropic... one of my favourite watches, one that bring a smile to my face every time. I had known these for a while but I saw a watch friend wearing one in spring of this year and it felt like Cupido had fired the perfect shot in my horological heart... Took a few months to find one that is, admittedly, not perfect (and still costs a sizeable chunk of cash). But I love it and it makes me happy in boring meetings every time I look at it stealthly 😀

There's something infectious with the square indices and square-shaped lume on the hands, in what is essentially a round-based-wristwatch shape. Truly iconic stuff... @dougiedude 's is stunning with that bezel and he refused to sell it to me🙁😟
